JKSSB Class-IV MTS Recruitment 2026: Quick Overview
The Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) has announced 2,863 Class-IV vacancies through Advertisement Notification No. 09 of 2026. The recruitment includes posts for Class-IV (MTS) and Sanitation Worker across UT, Divisional and District cadres in departments such as Public Works, Animal Husbandry and others. The online application process will begin on 5 October 2026 and continue until 3 November 2026. Candidates interested in these posts should check the official notification carefully for the department-wise vacancies, eligibility requirements and application process.
This is JKSSB's first large-scale Class-IV recruitment since 2020. In that year, the Board advertised 8,575 Class-IV posts under the same Special Recruitment Rules. The 2020 recruitment received a significant number of applications. JKSSB portal updates from that period showed nearly 2 lakh completed applications within three weeks, while total registrations had already crossed 3.79 lakh at that stage. Since that recruitment offered around three times as many posts as the current 2,863 vacancies, the previous figures provide useful context for understanding the level of interest such recruitment can attract.
Vacancy Details
The recruitment has a total of 2,863 vacancies. The department-wise, post-wise and category-wise vacancy distribution is given below:
The UT cadre has 105 posts, while the two Divisional cadres together account for 1,990 posts, including 1,093 in Jammu Division and 897 in Kashmir Division. The 20 district cadres have a combined 768 vacancies. A major share of the vacancies is under the Divisional cadre. Within this category, Public Works (R&B) has 939 posts in Jammu Division and 481 in Kashmir Division. Animal and Sheep Husbandry is another major contributor, with 591 vacancies distributed across the UT cadre, both Divisions and several districts.
The board doesn't provide separate department-wise vacancy numbers for PwBD or Ex-Servicemen candidates. Their horizontal reservation will be applied within the category-wise vacancies already listed, based on the requirements communicated by the respective departments at the appropriate stage.
Application Fee
The application fee is βΉ600 for candidates belonging to Open Merit, OBC, RBA and ALC/IB categories. Candidates from SC, ST-1, ST-2, EWS and PwBD categories need to pay βΉ500. The fee must be paid online only, through net banking, credit card or debit card. Once the application fee is paid, it is non-refundable under any circumstances. The amount also cannot be adjusted or carried forward against any other JKSSB examination.
Age Limit
The age of candidates will be calculated as on 1 January 2026. The category-wise upper age limits are given below:
Note: Candidates who are eligible for additional weightage as casual workers under the 2020 Special Recruitment Rules can claim an extra 5-year relaxation in the upper age limit. This relaxation is available in addition to the age limit already applicable to their category.
Educational Qualification
For Class-IV (MTS) posts, candidates must have passed at least Matriculation (10th), while the highest qualification allowed is 10+2. For Sanitation Worker posts, the minimum qualification is 8th pass, with 10+2 being the maximum qualification allowed.
The maximum qualification limit of 10+2 applies to both posts and must be followed strictly. Candidates who hold a graduation degree or any qualification above 10+2 are not eligible to apply for either Class-IV (MTS) or Sanitation Worker posts.
Candidates must have genuine qualification certificates in original by the cut-off date of 3 November 2026. Those applying with an equivalent qualification instead of the prescribed Matriculation or 8th-pass certificate must be able to produce a valid equivalence certificate from the competent authority whenever required.
Selection Process
The selection process consists of a single objective-type written examination conducted in English only. The exam will contain multiple-choice questions, with one-fourth mark deducted for each wrong answer.
There is no interview stage in this recruitment. In addition to the written exam, candidates may receive additional weightage marks based on the cadre they have applied for, as detailed below:
The written test carries different weightage across the UT, Divisional and District cadres. As the cadre level moves from UT to District, a larger share of the total marks comes from local-candidate preference and certificate-based weightage. However, these additional weightage categories apply only to candidates who meet the specific conditions. For example, the relevant preference is available to home-district or home-division candidates, while certain additional marks require certificates such as those for widows, orphans or eligible casual workers.
For candidates who do not qualify for any additional weightage category, the written examination remains the main basis of selection, regardless of the cadre applied for. The additional weightage marks are applicable only to candidates who meet the prescribed conditions and have the required certificates.
After the written examination, shortlisted candidates are called for Document Verification (DV). Since there is no interview stage, the verification of eligibility and supporting documents plays an important role in the final selection process.
Salary, Job Location, and Service Conditions
Selected candidates will be appointed under Pay Level SL1, with a basic pay ranging from βΉ14,800 to βΉ47,100. The notification does not provide specific details about allowances or expected in-hand salary beyond this pay scale. It also does not mention any probation period or bond requirement for these posts.
Postings will be made under the UT, Divisional and District cadres based on merit-cum-preference. Candidates will indicate their preferred cadre and department either during the application process or later, if directed by JKSSB.
Once the Board publishes the final cadre and department allocation, it will be treated as final. No request for a change will be accepted afterward, regardless of the reason. Therefore, candidates should give careful thought to the preference order while filling out the application form. The order in which cadres, departments or item numbers are selected can affect the final allocation
