UPSSSC JE Mechanical Recruitment 2026: Quick Intro

The Uttar Pradesh Subordinate Services Selection Commission (UPSSSC) has released Advertisement No. 24-Pariksha/2026 dated 12 October 2026 for 1,156 mechanical posts across six departments and organisations in Uttar Pradesh. The vacancies include Junior Engineer (Mechanical) posts in the Irrigation Department and PWD, Mechanic and Assistant Storekeeper posts in UPSRTC, along with three other technical positions. The online application process will run from 3 November to 25 November 2026. Only candidates holding a valid PET 2025 scorecard are eligible to apply.

The UPSSSC conducts recruitment for subordinate-level technical and non-technical posts across Uttar Pradesh government departments. This advertisement focuses exclusively on mechanical posts, covering eight post categories across the Groundwater Department, Prison Administration, UPSRTC, Irrigation and Water Resources Department, Panchayati Raj Department, and the Chief Engineer's Office of PWD. Unlike a regular open recruitment examination, this is a Main Examination, for which the PET 2025 scorecard is the primary eligibility requirement.

The competition at the PET stage is substantial. According to figures shared by the Commission in December 2025, approximately 25.32 lakh candidates registered for PET 2025, while 19.43 lakh appeared for the examination. The PET scorecard remains valid for three years, allowing eligible candidates with a PET 2025 scorecard and the required mechanical qualification to apply for this recruitment.

Vacancy Details

The recruitment offers a total of 1,156 vacancies. The department-wise, post-wise and category-wise vacancy distribution is provided below:

Total

439 (UR)

319 (SC)

15 (ST)

285 (OBC)

98 (EWS)

1,156

Three departments account for the majority of vacancies in this recruitment. Irrigation and Water Resources has 458 posts, representing nearly 40% of the total, followed by UPSRTC with 398 posts and PWD with 264 posts. Together, these three departments account for 1,120 of the 1,156 vacancies. The remaining three post categories have only 36 vacancies combined, making their share of the overall recruitment comparatively small.

Under horizontal reservation, women have 54 posts in UPSRTC Mechanic, 60 in Irrigation and Water Resources, and 52 in PWD. For Ex-Servicemen, 15 posts are reserved in Irrigation and Water Resources and 13 in PWD.
Vacancies for Persons with Disabilities (PwBD) are distributed according to the type of disability and vary across individual posts. Candidates should check their specific disability sub-category in Table 2 (ΰ€Έΰ€Ύΰ€°ΰ€Ώΰ€£ΰ₯€-2), from page 9 onwards of the official notification PDF.
The Commission has also clarified that these vacancy figures may increase or decrease if the applicable reservation orders change.

Application Fee

The application fee is β‚Ή25 for all categories, comprising no examination fee and a β‚Ή25 online processing fee. Women, Persons with Disabilities (PwBD), Ex-Servicemen, sportspersons and dependants of freedom fighters are also required to pay β‚Ή25, based on their respective base category.
Payment can be made through credit card, debit card, net banking, UPI or SBI e-challan. No other payment method is accepted.

Simply making the payment doesn't complete the application. The candidate's bank must confirm the transaction to the Commission by 2 December 2026. Only after successful confirmation will the application be considered complete and the final form become available for printing.

If the application form does not appear after a successful payment, candidates should use the β€œUpdate Your Transaction ID by Double Verification” option under the Applicant Segment on the homepage. If the payment fails, a Payment Acknowledgment Receipt will be generated. In that case, candidates must make the payment again using the β€œApplication Fee Deposition” option.
The Main Examination fee is collected separately at a later stage, only from shortlisted candidates and before they download their admit cards.

Age Limit

The age limit is calculated as on 1 July 2026 for all posts. Candidates applying for Technical Assistant (Groundwater) and Assistant District Panchayati Raj Officer must be at least 21 years old, while the minimum age for all other posts is 18 years. The maximum age limit is 40 years for all posts, subject to the applicable age relaxations.
Candidates belonging to SC, ST and other eligible categories are entitled to upper-age relaxation as per Uttar Pradesh Government rules.

Existing employees of UPSRTC receive an additional five years of age relaxation for the two posts under the corporation. Ex-Servicemen are covered under the Uttar Pradesh reservation rules of 1993 and must have been discharged from service on or before 25 November 2026.

Researchers covered under the Mukhyamantri Adhyetavritti Scheme are also eligible for age relaxation and preference benefits, as per the rules notified on 30 January 2026.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have obtained all required educational qualifications and certificates on or before 25 November 2026. Those whose final diploma results are not declared by this date will not be considered eligible.

The post-wise educational qualification requirements are provided below:

Annexure 7, page no. 26 onwards of the official notification PDF, lists the engineering branches accepted as equivalent to Mechanical Engineering for the Groundwater and PWD posts. These include Automobile, Production, Tool and Die, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, Manufacturing, and Mechatronics. The PWD annexure also specifies the school boards recognised as equivalent to the UP Board High School qualification.

Certain candidates receive preference, but these are not mandatory eligibility requirements. For most posts, preference is given to candidates with two years of Territorial Army service or an NCC β€˜B’ Certificate. For the UPSRTC Mechanic post, preference is given to candidates holding a heavy vehicle driving licence.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of the following stages:

1. Shortlisting through PET 2025: Candidates are shortlisted based on their normalised PET 2025 scores. Approximately 15 times the number of vacancies, category-wise, are called for the Main Examination. Candidates tied at the cutoff score, calculated to two decimal places, are also included. Candidates with a zero or negative PET score are not eligible for shortlisting.
2. Main Examination: Shortlisted candidates appear for a single written examination consisting of 100 objective questions for 100 marks, with a duration of 120 minutes. One-fourth of a mark is deducted for each incorrect answer.
3. Document Verification and Eligibility Scrutiny: Candidates' educational qualifications, eligibility documents and other certificates are verified. Post preferences are also considered at this stage.

The Main Examination is the deciding stage for selection, with no interview, skill test or physical test. The Main Examination date has not yet been announced.

However, the first hurdle is shortlisting based on the normalised PET 2025 score. Candidates with lower PET scores may not reach the Main Examination, regardless of their mechanical knowledge. The number of candidates shortlisted depends on the vacancies in each category. For example, with only 15 ST vacancies, the shortlist for that category will be relatively small, while the Unreserved (UR) category may have a more competitive cutoff based on candidates' PET scores.

The complete examination pattern, structure and detailed syllabus for the Main Examination are provided below:

The Main Examination syllabus is divided into three parts, with the detailed topics for each part outlined below:

Salary, Job Location and Service Conditions

The salary and pay scale vary by post. The post-wise pay details are provided below:

*The two UPSRTC posts are governed by the Corporation's own 1981 service regulations for non-officer employees, rather than the regular Uttar Pradesh government service rules. Both posts are also classified as temporary. Candidates who prioritise long-term job security should carefully review the applicable service conditions and pension provisions before placing these posts on the same level as departmental vacancies.

Selected candidates will be posted in their respective departments and designated locations across Uttar Pradesh, depending on the post.
Junior Engineers (Mechanical) in the Irrigation and PWD departments may work with pumps, tubewells, gates, lifting systems and other mechanical equipment, involving both fieldwork and office responsibilities. UPSRTC Mechanic posts are generally associated with workshop duties at transport depots, while the Instructor (Machine) post involves workshop-based teaching and training within prison industries.
