RRB NTPC Graduate Recruitment 2026: Quick Intro

The Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) have released CEN 06/2026 for Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) Graduate-level posts, offering 3,548 vacancies across four categories. The online application process will begin on 8 October 2026 and continue until 6 November 2026 at 11:59 PM. Among the total vacancies, 2,750 posts are for Goods Train Manager, making it the largest share of this recruitment.

The Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) recruitment is one of the major railway examinations for graduates, covering various commercial, accounts and clerical positions in Indian Railways. Recruitment is conducted through a common selection process across 21 Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs). CEN 06/2026 is the graduate-level NTPC recruitment and includes four posts: Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor, Goods Train Manager, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, and Senior Clerk cum Typist.

The current recruitment has a smaller vacancy count compared with the previous NTPC Graduate-level recruitment cycles. CEN 05/2024 had 8,113 posts, while CEN 06/2025 had 5,810 posts. With 3,548 vacancies, the current recruitment is around 39% lower than the 2025 cycle and about 56% lower than the 2024 cycle. The 2024 recruitment also included 994 Station Master posts, whereas Station Master is not included in CEN 06/2026.

Application Fee

General, OBC and EWS candidates are required to pay an application fee of β‚Ή500. Candidates belonging to SC, ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwBD, Female, Transgender, Minority and Economically Backward Class (EBC) categories are required to pay β‚Ή250.
The fee can be paid online only through Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card or UPI. Any applicable bank or payment service charges will be borne by the candidate.

*The refund will be credited only to an Aadhaar-linked bank account that the candidate confirms during the application process. Candidates who do not have their own bank account may provide a family member’s Aadhaar-linked bank account. No refund will be issued if the application is incomplete, not submitted, or rejected. Candidates are also responsible for providing correct and active bank account details, as no refund will be made if the account is wrongly linked or inactive.

Note: EBC is a fee category only and should not be confused with OBC or EWS. It applies to candidates from families with an annual income below β‚Ή50,000. To claim the EBC fee concession, candidates must have an EBC certificate, BPL card or Izzat MST dated on or before 6 November 2026.
Minority candidates claiming the β‚Ή250 application fee must produce an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper during document verification.

Age Limit

The age limit is 18 to 33 years, calculated as on 1 January 2027. The category-wise date of birth range applicable to candidates is given below:

Note: Candidates must ensure that their date of birth exactly matches the matriculation or equivalent certificate. Any request to change the date of birth later will not be considered, and a mismatch may lead to disqualification. Age is also used as a tie-breaking criterion. When candidates secure equal marks, the older candidate is placed above the younger candidate in the merit order.

The category-wise upper age relaxation applicable to eligible candidates is provided below:

Note: If a candidate is eligible for age relaxation under more than one category or ground, only the highest applicable relaxation will be allowed. The relaxations will not be added together and candidates belonging to SC, ST or OBC-NCL categories who apply against Unreserved (UR) vacancies will not be eligible for any age relaxation.

Educational Qualification

For all four posts, candidates must have a degree from a recognised university or an equivalent qualification. There is no specific stream requirement and no minimum percentage requirement mentioned. This means graduates from different academic backgrounds can apply, provided they meet the other eligibility conditions.

Note: Candidates must have obtained their degree on or before 6 November 2026. Those who are awaiting their final result on the closing date are not eligible to apply. If the degree certificate is issued after 6 November 2026, candidates should be prepared to produce a consolidated marksheet or semester-wise marksheets showing the result declaration date during document verification.

Medical fitness is also part of eligibility, and the required medical standard varies by post. Goods Train Manager requires A-2 medical standard, which is the strictest and includes 6/9 distant vision without glasses, along with clearance in colour vision, binocular vision, night vision and myopic vision tests. Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor requires B-2 medical standard, while Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist and Senior Clerk cum Typist require C-2 medical standard.
Candidates who fail the prescribed medical standard for the post they have opted for will not be offered an alternative post.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of four stages, conducted one after another:
1. CBT 1: This stage has 100 questions for 100 marks to be completed in 90 minutes. It includes 40 questions from General Awareness, 30 from Mathematics, and 30 from General Intelligence and Reasoning. CBT 1 is common to all posts and is conducted as a screening test.
2. CBT 2: Candidates who qualify for the next stage appear for 120 questions for 120 marks with a time limit of 90 minutes. The paper consists of 50 questions from General Awareness, 35 from Mathematics, and 35 from General Intelligence and Reasoning. Shortlisting is done up to 15 times the community-wise vacancies for the chosen RRB.
3. Document Verification: Candidates are called for document verification in a 1:1 ratio, meaning the number of candidates called is equal to the number of available vacancies.
4. Medical Examination: Candidates must meet the prescribed medical standard for the post they have selected.

Both CBT 1 and CBT 2 have negative marking, with one-third mark deducted for each wrong answer.
PwBD candidates eligible for a scribe are given 120 minutes to complete the examination. The minimum qualifying marks are 40% for UR and EWS, 30% for OBC-NCL and SC, and 25% for ST. For Ex-Servicemen and PwBD candidates, the qualifying percentage is based on their respective community category.
For examinations conducted in multiple shifts, marks will be normalised to account for differences in difficulty levels.
CBT 1 marks are qualifying in nature, while only the normalised CBT 2 marks are used for shortlisting candidates for Document Verification.

Note: CBT 1 is the first major screening stage, where a large number of candidates are eliminated. Based on the stated shortlisting ratio, 15 times the 3,548 vacancies works out to around 53,000 candidates progressing to CBT 2 across all RRBs. However, the actual number will be decided community-wise based on the vacancies in each RRB, and the Railways may revise the shortlisting criteria if required. Considering the large number of applicants, only a relatively small proportion of candidates are expected to reach CBT 2.

CBT 2 plays the key role in determining merit. There is no interview or typing test, so the normalised CBT 2 marks are used for shortlisting candidates for the final stages.
Since candidates are called for Document Verification in a 1:1 ratio, there is very little room for error. A candidate who fails the prescribed medical examination or fails to produce the required original documents may lose the opportunity, allowing the next eligible candidate in merit to be considered.
The notification also gives the RRBs the option to conduct additional CBTs, if required, so the examination process may vary depending on the recruitment requirements.

For Senior Clerk cum Typist and Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist, the Computer Based Typing Skill Test has been removed from this recruitment. However, candidates are still expected to have basic computer and typing skills, which may be assessed after joining the post. Candidates should note that poor performance in typing or computer-related work may affect or delay confirmation or promotion, as applicable under the relevant service rules.

The syllabus is largely based on school-level concepts. Mathematics covers topics such as percentages, ratio and proportion, time and work, interest, profit and loss, mensuration, basic algebra and trigonometry. General Awareness includes current affairs, General Science up to Class 10 level, history, geography, Indian polity, economics and basic computer knowledge.
The question paper is available in English, Hindi and 13 regional languages. Candidates can select their preferred examination language while filling out the application form.

Note: The detailed exam pattern and syllabus for CBT 1 and CBT 2 are provided in the Official Notification PDF from page 18 onwards. Candidates should refer to these pages for the complete subject-wise syllabus and examination details.

Salary, Job Location and Service Conditions

Chief Commercial cum Ticket Supervisor is a Level 6 post with an initial basic pay of β‚Ή35,400 under the 7th Pay Commission. Goods Train Manager, Junior Accounts Assistant cum Typist and Senior Clerk cum Typist are Level 5 posts with an initial basic pay of β‚Ή29,200. The notification does not specify the allowances or exact in-hand salary, so these figures should be considered the starting basic pay only.

Candidates can apply to only one RRB and must provide their preference order for zones or units and the posts for which they are eligible. Posting is decided based on merit, candidate preference, medical fitness and the availability of vacancies at the time the panel is prepared. Once a candidate is empanelled, they will no longer be considered for any other post at the same pay level. The RRB may also allot a zone or unit that was not included in the candidate’s preference if required due to administrative reasons.

Candidates should consider their long-term posting preference carefully. A railway employee is ordinarily retained in the Railway where they are first posted, and a transfer request is generally not registered until 5 to 10 years of service have been completed. During training, selected candidates are paid only a stipend and may be required to execute a security or indemnity bond. They may also be liable for active service in the Railway Engineers' Unit of the Territorial Army, as applicable under the recruitment conditions.

Note: Selection by an RRB does not automatically guarantee appointment. The RRB only recommends the names of selected candidates, while the actual offer of appointment is issued by the concerned Railway. Appointment is subject to successful completion of the prescribed medical examination, verification of original certificates, and verification of character and antecedents.

How to Apply

  1. Candidates should first read the complete CEN 06/2026 notification carefully on the official RRB website before applying. The online application link will be available at rrbapply.gov.in from 8 October 2026
  2. Candidates who already have an account from earlier RRB recruitment notices issued in 2024, 2025 or 2026 can log in using their existing credentials. Those who do not have an account must create a new one using their own mobile number and email ID
  3. Enter your name, parents' names and date of birth exactly as in your matriculation certificate. These details cannot be edited later
  4. Verify your identity using DigiLocker or Aadhaar during the application process. If any other photo ID is used for verification, the candidate may be subject to stricter identity checks at different stages of the recruitment process
  5. Choose one RRB, then fill your order of preference for zones or units and posts, and choose your exam language
  6. Capture your live photo through the portal, following the background, dress and framing rules below
  7. Upload your signature in the format given below. SC and ST candidates who want the free train pass also upload their certificate as a PDF under 400 KB
  8. Link your Aadhaar-seeded bank account for refund through the verification step
  9. Pay the fee online by 8 November 2026. The application counts as accepted only after the payment is confirmed by email and SMS
  10. Save the final application and registration number. If something needs changing, use the paid correction window from 9 to 18 November 2026

Required Documents and Important Instructions

At the application stage, candidates need to upload only their signature and, for SC and ST candidates opting for the free train travel facility, the caste certificate. A photograph does not need to be uploaded because the portal captures a live photograph during the application process.
Shortlisted candidates must carry the following documents for Document Verification:
1. Original educational certificates and marksheets, along with two sets of self-attested photocopies.
2. Matriculation or equivalent certificate for verification of name and date of birth.
3. Category certificates in the prescribed formats: SC/ST (Annexure I), OBC-NCL (Annexure II) with self-declaration (Annexure IIA), and EWS Income & Asset Certificate (Annexure III). The prescribed annexures are available in the Official Notification PDF.
4. Disability certificate through the UDID portal for PwBD candidates, and discharge or employment documents for Ex-Servicemen.
5. No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the present employer for candidates working in government departments or PSUs.
6. Proof of present address, such as a rent agreement, electricity bill or bank passbook.
7. A recent colour passport-size photograph taken within two months and a valid original photo ID.

Note: The live photograph must be taken against a plain white background while wearing a non-white, preferably dark-coloured top. Candidates must not wear a cap, mask or spectacles, and their eyes should remain open. The head should cover at least half of the frame. Photographing an existing photograph is not allowed and may lead to summary rejection of the application.
The signature must be in running handwriting, written with black ink on white paper and uploaded as a JPG or JPEG file between 30 KB and 49 KB. Signatures in block capitals or thumb impressions are not accepted and may result in rejection.

Candidates claiming OBC-NCL reservation must have a certificate issued on or after 1 April 2026 and on or before 6 November 2026. For EWS candidates, the certificate must be valid on the closing date and should be based on the candidate's income for the financial year 2025-26. Only certificates issued in the prescribed annexure formats will be accepted. If the required certificate is not submitted in the prescribed format, the candidate's category claim will not be accepted and the candidature will be considered under the Unreserved (UR) category.

Submitting more than one application will lead to disqualification and may result in a ban from future RRB and RRC examinations.
Candidates who have been dismissed from government service or are currently debarred from recruitment examinations are not eligible to apply.
The mobile number and email ID cannot be changed after the account is created, so candidates should use their own active mobile number and email ID while registering.

On the examination day, candidates must carry their e-call letter and an original photo ID. Pens, watches, mobile phones, calculators and water bottles are not allowed inside the examination centre. A pen will be provided at the centre.
Candidates should avoid applying henna on their hands, as biometric verification will be conducted. A self-declaration paragraph must be written at the examination centre in the candidate’s own handwriting and in normal writing, not capital letters. Writing the declaration in advance may lead to rejection of the candidature.
Candidates may be allotted an examination centre in another city or state, and requests for a change of centre, date or shift will not be accepted.

Candidates should remain alert against touts, fraudsters and fake websites. The RRBs have clarified that they do not appoint any agents or coaching centres for the recruitment process. Candidates should therefore rely only on the official RRB websites and authorised communication.

The most important decision to make before applying is your RRB preference, as this is a major choice that cannot be changed later. Candidates should carefully check Annexure B of the Official Notification, review the vacancies available for their category and preferred posts, and decide their RRB and post preferences before starting the application. Also, make sure to enter your own mobile number and email ID on the Create an Account page, as these details are locked once the account is created.

Candidates should keep their degree certificate, matriculation certificate and applicable category certificate ready before applying. Those claiming OBC-NCL reservation should ensure that the certificate is issued on or after 1 April 2026.

Candidates should regularly check rrb.indianrailways.gov.in and the website of their chosen RRB for official updates. The City Intimation Slip is generally issued around 10 days before CBT 1, while the e-call letter is generally available around 4 days before the examination.
