HPSC FSO Recruitment 2026: Quick Intro
The Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC) has announced 45 Food Safety Officer (Group-B) vacancies in the Food & Drugs Administration Department, Haryana through Advertisement No. 25/2026, published on 19 September 2026. The online application process will begin on 28 September 2026 and continue until 19 October 2026 at 5:00 PM. The post carries a starting basic pay of βΉ35,400.
The Food & Drugs Administration Department, Haryana is responsible for enforcing food safety regulations across the state. Food Safety Officers serve as the department's field-level regulatory staff, handling duties related to food safety enforcement.
This is not the first time HPSC has recruited for the Food Safety Officer post. The Commission had previously advertised the same post in 2022, when 41 vacancies were notified.
Vacancy Details
Out of the 45 Food Safety Officer vacancies, 22 posts are reserved under the Unreserved (UR) category, while the remaining 23 posts are distributed among the reserved categories.
Note: Two additional reservation details should also be noted. ESM (General) has 2 posts and PwD has 2 posts, but these are horizontal reservations, meaning they are included within the total 45 vacancies and do not increase the overall vacancy count. In addition, one post under the Scheduled Caste category is a shortfall vacancy carried forward from an earlier recruitment cycle and included in the current requisition.
Application Fee
The application fee varies by category and must be paid online through Net Banking, Debit Card or Credit Card. The fee payment must be completed by 5:00 PM on the last date of application.
Note: The application fee, once paid, is non-refundable under any circumstances. It also cannot be adjusted against another application if a candidate submits more than one form.
Payment is accepted online only through the prescribed payment methods. There is no offline payment or challan facility available for this recruitment.
Age Limit
Candidates must be at least 18 years old and not more than 42 years old as on the closing date, 19 October 2026.
The prescribed upper-age relaxation is available for eligible categories, subject to an overall maximum age of 52 years. This ceiling does not apply to ex-servicemen, who are governed by separate age-relaxation rules.
Note: The reservation-based age relaxations apply only to DSC, OSC, BC-A, BC-B and ESM candidates who are residents of Haryana. Candidates from outside Haryana who belong to a reserved category will be treated as General category candidates for age-relaxation purposes.
Educational Qualification
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate degree from a recognised university in one of the prescribed fields. Eligible disciplines include Food Technology and related areas such as Food Engineering, Food Processing and Preservation, Food Biotechnology, and Food Safety and Quality Management. Other accepted fields include Dairy Technology, Biotechnology, Oil Technology, Agriculture, Agricultural Engineering, Fisheries, Food Nutrition and Dietetics, Horticulture, Veterinary Science, Bio-Chemistry, Microbiology and Chemistry. Specified medical qualifications are also accepted, including MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS and BAMS.
Candidates must also have Hindi or Sanskrit as a subject in Matriculation, or Hindi as a subject in higher education. This is a separate eligibility requirement in addition to the prescribed degree qualification. Therefore, having the required technical or medical degree alone is not sufficient. Candidates must also meet the Hindi/Sanskrit language requirement to be eligible for the post.
After appointment, selected candidates must complete a training programme prescribed by the Food Authority at a recognised institute. The candidate will be formally notified as a Food Safety Officer only after successfully completing the required training.
Selection Process
The selection process generally consists of three stages: Screening Test, Subject Knowledge Test and Interview.
If the number of applications is high, the Commission may introduce an additional shortlisting stage before the Subject Knowledge Test. Shortlisting may be based on factors such as marks obtained in the qualifying degree, higher educational qualifications or relevant experience, as prescribed by the Commission.
In this recruitment, candidates may be shortlisted through academic marks, a screening test or other prescribed criteria before reaching the Subject Knowledge Test and Interview. The Subject Knowledge Test is used to assess the candidate's understanding of the relevant field, while the Interview forms the final stage of the selection process.
Candidates should therefore prepare for each stage carefully, as the Commission may use the screening or shortlisting process to determine who proceeds to the subsequent stages.
Note: Complete details regarding the examination pattern and selection process are provided from page 9 onwards of the official notification PDF. Candidates can refer to the notification available in the Important Links section below for the complete information.
Salary, Job Location and Service Conditions
The Food Safety Officer post carries a pay scale of βΉ9,300ββΉ34,800 with Grade Pay of βΉ4,200, corresponding to FPL-6 (Cell-1). The starting basic pay is βΉ35,400. The Commission doesn't provide a separate breakdown of allowances. Therefore, βΉ35,400 should be treated as the confirmed starting basic pay, with applicable state government allowances payable as per the rules.
Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in Haryana under the Food & Drugs Administration Department. The role includes regular field inspections, food sample collection and enforcement visits, so the position is not limited to desk-based duties. Candidates should be prepared for fieldwork within their assigned district or area.
