Selection Process

Selection runs across 3 phases, which are detaled below:

Phase I is a computer-based online examination conducted in Hindi and English, (except for the English section, which is available only in English). Exams duration depends on the category selected by the candidate. Science Subjects candidates get 60 minutes, Other than Science Subjects candidates get 45 minutes, while candidates appearing for both categories get a total of 85 minutes. Each correct answer is equal to 1 mark, and there is no penalty for unanswered questions, but 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect answer. It is also important to note that since the examination is conducted in multiple shifts, therefore, scores will be normalised before preparing the merit list. Candidates must also secure the minimum qualifying marks in each subject, because qualifying on the overall score is not enough. The shortlist for the next stage is prepared state-wise, which means the qualifying cut-off depends on the candidate's domicile state and the number of candidates appearing from that state, rather than on a single all India cut-off.

Note: Agniveervayu recruits are not required to contribute to any Provident Fund (PF), and there is no entitlement to gratuity or pension of any kind, since the engagement is fixed term basis and not a career appointment. Also during the 4-year service period, Agniveervayu personnel are covered by a non-contributory life insurance policy of ₹48 lakh, and at the end of the service period, they are also issued a Skill Certificate, which records the skills, training, and experience gained during their service.
