State-Based vs. All India Basis - A Critical Distinction Many Candidates Miss

Here's something that catches a lot of people off guard.

For Constable (Technical & Tradesmen), vacancies are allocated state/UT-wise. Candidates must apply according to their domicile state. During Document Verification, a valid Domicile or Permanent Residence Certificate matching the application must be presented.

Example: If your application says Rajasthan but your domicile certificate says Haryana, your candidature will be canceled.

For Constable (Pioneer Wing - Mason / Electrician), these 20 posts are filled on an All India basis, so candidates from any state may apply.

Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC who have recently moved from one state to another must choose carefully whether to claim reservation benefits from their origin state or apply as unreserved from their current state. This choice cannot be changed after submission.

UR β†’ 35% | OBC/EWS β†’ 33% | Others β†’ 33%

CBT Syllabus - What to Study?

Part A - General Intelligence & Reasoning
Topics include analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, visual memory, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetic number series, coding and decoding. This section tests your pattern recognition and logical thinking. Practice reasoning puzzles and series daily.

Part B - General Knowledge & General Awareness
Covers current events, India and neighboring countries, sports, history, culture, geography, economy, Indian Constitution, and basic science. Questions don’t require specialized knowledge. Read newspapers regularly and revise general facts about India.

Part C - Elementary Mathematics
Includes number systems, whole number computation, decimals and fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, discount, mensuration, time and distance, and time and work. This is Class 10 level; practice calculations without a calculator to improve speed.

Part D - English or Hindi
Tests basic comprehension and language skills. This is often a scoring section if practiced. Solve previous CRPF and SSC Constable papers to get familiar with question patterns.

Negative Marking: 0.25 marks are deducted per wrong answer. Attempt questions only if you can eliminate options; otherwise, skip them.

Stage 4: Trade/Skill Test - Proving What You Can Actually Do

This is the stage where many candidates lose their chances β€” not because the test is difficult, but because they underestimate it.

Most candidates focus heavily on PET and the written exam, thinking this stage will be easy. But when it comes to actually performing the task in front of experienced evaluators, many struggle.

Format: Practical test (qualifying in nature)
Total Marks: 50
Minimum to qualify: 20 marks (40%)

This stage checks whether you can actually perform the work of your trade.

What Each Trade Test Involves:

  • Driver: Driving, parking, and handling light and heavy vehicles
  • Motor Mechanic Vehicle: Handling tools and demonstrating basic mechanical knowledge
  • Bugler: Playing and maintaining a bugle
  • Tailor: Taking measurements, cutting, and stitching clothes
  • Cobbler: Polishing, cutting leather, repairing and making shoes
  • Carpenter: Using tools, cutting wood, and making basic structures
  • Painter: Applying paint, spray painting, and neat writing on boards
  • Gardener (Mali): Knowledge of plants, seeds, and fertilizers
  • Brass Band / Pipe Band: Playing musical instruments
  • Cook: Preparing food (chapati, rice, dal, etc.) for a large group
  • Water Carrier: Washing utensils, kneading dough, cutting vegetables
  • Barber/Hair Dresser: Hair cutting and shaving skills
  • Washerman/Washerwoman: Washing and ironing uniforms
  • Safai Karamchari: Cleaning floors, open areas, and toilets
  • Mason (Pioneer): Cement work and basic construction tasks
  • Electrician (Pioneer): Electrical fittings, wiring, and basic knowledge of power supply

Stage 5: The Final Hurdle - Document Verification & Medical Check

The last stage is strict but straightforward. You need to clear two key steps:

1. Document Verification (DV)

Bring all original documents along with self-attested copies:

  • Matriculation certificate (age proof)
  • Domicile / PRC certificate
  • Caste / EWS certificate (if applicable)
  • Technical qualification certificates
  • Driving License (for Driver posts)
  • Ex-Servicemen certificate (if applicable)

Important: Any mismatch between your application and documents may lead to instant disqualification. There are no second chances.

2. Detailed Medical Examination (DME)

A CRPF Medical Board will conduct a thorough check to confirm you are fit for duty. This includes:

  • Vision tests (specific standards per trade)
  • Checks for knock-knee, flat foot, varicose veins, and general fitness
  • Assessment of physical and mental health for active service

Tip: Be honest and fully prepared - this stage ensures you are ready for real duties in the CRPF.

How Final Selection Works

  1. Candidates who pass the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and Physical Standard Test (PST) are shortlisted for the Computer Based Test (CBT).
  2. CBT scores are normalized to account for variations across sessions.
  3. Candidates who meet the minimum cut-off in CBT move on to the Trade Test, Document Verification (DV), and Detailed Medical Examination (DME).
  4. State/UT-wise and category-wise merit lists are prepared based on normalized CBT scores.
  5. Final selection is done separately for male and female candidates in each category (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM) within each state/UT.
  6. For the Pioneer Wing, a single All India merit list is prepared.

Before planning your strategy, look at what actually happened in the last recruitment. Most candidates focus only on minimum qualifying marks (30% for UR, 25% for OBC, 20% for SC/ST), but actual selection depends on actual cutoff marks, which are much higher.
