CBT Syllabus

Topics include analogies, similarities and differences, spatial visualization, visual memory, observation, relationship concepts, arithmetic number series, coding and decoding. This section tests your pattern recognition and logical thinking. Practice reasoning puzzles and series daily.

Part B - General Knowledge & General Awareness
Covers current events, India and neighboring countries, sports, history, culture, geography, economy, Indian Constitution, and basic science. Questions don’t require specialized knowledge. Read newspapers regularly and revise general facts about India.

Part C - Elementary Mathematics
Includes number systems, whole number computation, decimals and fractions, percentages, ratio and proportion, averages, simple and compound interest, profit and loss, discount, mensuration, time and distance, and time and work. This is Class 10 level; practice calculations without a calculator to improve speed.

Part D - English or Hindi
Tests basic comprehension and language skills. This is often a scoring section if practiced. Solve previous CRPF and SSC Constable papers to get familiar with question patterns.

Negative Marking: 0.25 marks are deducted per wrong answer. Attempt questions only if you can eliminate options; otherwise, skip them.

STAGE 4: Trade/Skill Test

This is the stage where many candidates lose their chances - not because the test is difficult, but because they underestimate it.

Most candidates focus heavily on PET and the written exam, thinking this stage will be easy. But when it comes to actually performing the task in front of experienced evaluators, many struggle.

Format: Practical test (qualifying in nature)
Total Marks: 50
Minimum to qualify: 20 marks (40%)

This stage checks whether you can actually perform the work of your trade.

STAGE 5: Document Verification & Medical Check

Document Verification (DV): Candidates must present original documents along with self-attested copies, including Matriculation certificate (age proof), Domicile/PRC, Caste/EWS certificates, technical qualification certificates, Driving License (for Driver posts), and Ex-Servicemen certificate. Note that any discrepancy between your application and original documents results in immediate disqualification.

Detailed Medical Examination (DME): A CRPF Medical Board assesses candidates for physical and mental fitness, including vision standards and checks for physical conditions such as knock-knees, flat feet, or varicose veins. Ensure all physical requirements are met before applying.

Final Selection Process: Following the PET/PST, candidates are shortlisted for the CBT. CBT scores are normalized, and those meeting the cut-off proceed to the Trade Test, DV, and DME. Final merit lists are prepared based on normalized CBT scores, categorized by State/UT, gender, and reservation category (UR, SC, ST, OBC, EWS, ESM). For the Pioneer Wing, selection is based on a single All India merit list.

Previous Year Cutoff Trends

Source: CRPF Official Cutoff Marks - Recruitment 2023

Before you start preparing, you need to understand what actually happened last year recruitment ie in 2023. A lot of candidates think clearing the minimum marks - 30% for UR, 25% for OBC, 20% for SC/ST , is enough to get selected. But it's your misconceptions. Those are just qualifying marks. The real cutoff is much higher, and it depends on your state and your chosen trade.

Cook & Water Carrier (Male)

State UR Cutoff State UR Cutoff
Uttar Pradesh79.50Maharashtra57.91
Rajasthan78.17Punjab52.19
Haryana77.33Odisha52.10
Madhya Pradesh75.95Manipur51.69
Bihar75.73Gujarat51.34
Delhi NCR66.77Assam48.76
Uttarakhand63.75Karnataka48.94
West Bengal61.40Tamil Nadu39.66
Nagaland54.65Kerala35.71
Chhattisgarh56.00Puducherry36.90

Here you can see the cutoff marks and its evident that if you are from UP, Rajasthan, or Haryana, targeting anything below 80 is risky. But if you are from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, or Puducherry, even 38 to 42 marks had a chance last year. Same exam, same post - but nearly 44 marks difference between the highest and lowest state. That means if you want to get selected from your native state, you have to put a lot of efforts to get good score.

Driver (Male)

This trade has one of the widest gaps between states. Rajasthan and Haryana needed 73 to 75 marks, while states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, and Jharkhand closed near the qualifying mark itself ie, around 30. So if you are from a low competition state and hold a valid driving licence, your chances here are genuinely good. One more thing you need to keep in mind that candidates with an HTV (Heavy Transport Vehicle) licence face visibly less competition. If you have that licence or can get it before the next recruitment, it is a real advantage worth using.

Safai Karamchari (Male)

Many candidates pick this trade assuming it is one of the easier options. Last year's cutoffs say the opposite. In Rajasthan, the UR cutoff was 88. In UP it was nearly the same. Even the SC cutoff in several states crossed what the UR cutoff was in other trades. The reason is simple, this post gets a very high number of applicants but has limited vacancies. If you are in a high competition state and thinking this trade is a safe backup, reconsider. It is actually one of the most competitive trades in the entire recruitment.

Female Candidates

Seats for female candidates are limited across all posts, and that directly increases cutoffs. In Uttar Pradesh, the Bugler post crossed 88 last year. Cook and Water Carrier in UP went above 86. Even in relatively lower competition states like Bihar and Rajasthan, cutoffs lied between 66 and 77. If you are a female candidate applying from any of the northern states, planning for 80 plus is realistic based on last year's numbers.

Pioneer Wing

Pioneer Wing is different from all other trades. It is not state-based you compete at the All India level. Vacancies are very few, and last year the cutoff for Electrician crossed 92, Mason crossed 92 as well, and Plumber was above 91. That means the competition was really high and you can expect the same level or more higher level of competition this year too. So average preparation is not enough if you are targeting Pioneer Wing, your written test accuracy needs to be very high. Even a small mistakes can cost your selection.

How Category Affects Your Cutoff

State UR OBC SC ST
Uttar Pradesh79.575-777065
Rajasthan7873-766869
Bihar7573-746271
Haryana7774-7568-
Madhya Pradesh7569-736653
Maharashtra5749-524843
West Bengal6149-565455

The gap between UR and reserved categories is usually between 3 and 15 marks, smaller than most candidates expect. Category relaxation helps, but it is not that much beneficial. Your actual score still does most of the work. Do not plan your preparation around the relaxation. Plan it around the score you actually need to clear.

What Score Should You Target?

State Type Minimum to Attempt Score to Feel Safe
High competition (UP, Rajasthan, Haryana)7080+
Medium competition5565+
Low competition3545+

Use these numbers as your real target. The minimum qualifying marks are just the entry point to appear, they are not the selection standard. Build your preparation around what actually cleared last year, not what was just enough to sit in the exam hall.
