NIACL Apprentice Recruitment 2026: Quick Intro

The New India Assurance Company Limited is India's largest public sector general insurer founded by Sir Dorabji Tata in 1919, nationalized in 1973, and today holding around 12.74 percent of India's total general insurance market. It is the only Indian general insurance company with a significant international presence, operating in 25 countries. The Government of India holds approximately 86 percent of the company.

This is NIACL's third consecutive annual apprentice drive under NATS, and the numbers have grown each year. The previous batch (FY 2025-26) offered 500 seats at a stipend of Rs. 9,000 per month. Before that, FY 2024-25 had 325 seats. This year's 550 seats come with a stipend of Rs. 12,300, a jump of more than 36 percent in one year. The increase aligns with revised minimum stipend rates for graduates under the NATS framework, and it is reasonable to expect stronger applicant interest than the 2025 batch.

With graduation in any discipline as the only academic and no subject-specific requirement, this recruitment opens to every Arts, Commerce, and Science graduate of the 2022-2026 passing batches who has no prior apprenticeship and under one year of formal employment.

These figures are tentative and the company can revise them up or down based on operational need. EWS seats in particular are subject to further government directives.

Candidates from reserved categories applying for states where their category has no listed seat can still apply under the General category, provided they meet all unreserved eligibility conditions including the applicable age limit.

The fee is non-refundable under any circumstances including cases where the application is rejected during eligibility scrutiny. An application is considered complete only after the fee has been successfully paid. Do not consider the portal registration as the final step.

Age Limit

Age is calculated as on June 1, 2026. Minimum age: 21 years. Maximum age: 30 years for General and EWS candidates. Candidates must have been born between June 2, 1996 and June 1, 2005 (both dates inclusive).

Category

Relaxation in Upper Age

SC / ST5 years
OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)3 years
PwBD10 years
Widows / divorced / legally separated women β€”> GEN/EWSUp to 35 years
Widows / divorced / legally separated women β€”> OBCUp to 38 years
Widows / divorced / legally separated women β€”> SC/STUp to 40 years

Age proof is accepted only through Class X marksheet or a birth certificate from a competent authority. No other document will be accepted. OBC candidates falling in the creamy layer are treated as General for both the age limit and reservation purposes.

Educational Qualification

A graduation degree in any discipline from a recognized university or an equivalent qualification recognized by the Central Government is the only academic requirement. However, the final year marksheet or passing certificate must be dated between January 1, 2022 and June 1, 2026, both inclusive. Graduates who passed before January 2022 are not eligible, regardless of when they received their degree certificate.

Where grades or CGPA are awarded, a conversion certificate from the university is required at the document verification stage. Arrange this in advance because universities often take several weeks to issue such letters.

One important condition to note: candidates with one or more years of work experience after completing graduation are not eligible, recruitment is designed specifically for freshers and if you took up a job after graduation and completed 12 months or more, you do not qualify.

Selection Process

The recruitment process has two stages, both of which must be cleared for final selection.

Stage 1 β€”> Online Written Test. This is conducted on the candidate's own device such as a desktop, laptop, tablet, or smartphone with camera enabled. This is a home-based exam, not a test-center exam. The structure:

There is no negetive marking mentioned in the official notification. But the candidate should note that 2025 batch had a 0.25 per wrong answer deduction confirmed via the BFSI SSC information handout released before the exam. Candidates should wait for the official exam handout from BFSI SSC for this year.

Stage 2 β€”> Regional Language Test and Document Verification. From the written test merit list, the top candidates are shortlisted in a 3:1 ratio against available seats for each state and category. Crucially, the language test is not a separate event with its own call letter, rather it is conducted at the time of document verification itself. Candidates who have proof of having studied the relevant state language at Class X or XII level will be exempted from this test. Others must pass it at the verification stage. Failing the language test means disqualification, even if your written score is strong.

Tiebreaking rule: when two candidates score the same marks, the older candidate is ranked higher.

Salary, Job Location, and Service Conditions

The stipend is Rs. 12,300 per month, paid by the 10th of the following month and no HRA, no medical allowance, no Provident Fund, no ESI etc will be provided. Apprentices are explicitly not employees of NIACL and are not entitled to any employee benefits. This is how the Apprentices Act works, and it applies to every apprenticeship under NATS regardless of which company runs it.

Posting will be to any office under the regional office circle of the state you choose at application. NIACL operates over 28 regional offices, each managing multiple divisional and branch offices across the state. Candidate cannot choose specific city or town within the state it is assigned based on the company's operational requirement.

Leave system: one day per month, credited at the start of the following month. also candidate cannot take more than two days of leave at a stretch. Unauthorized absences result in pro-rata deductions from the stipend. Leave balance does not carry over after training ends.

The 12-month training concludes with an assessment: theory conducted by BFSI SSC, practical conducted by NIACL. Candidates who pass both receive a BFSI SSC Apprenticeship Certificate. After that, the company has no obligation to offer employment, and the apprentice has no right to claim it.

To help aspirants better understand the recruitment process, here are some important practical observations:

What the Two-Portal Process Actually Means

The NATS portal (nats.education.gov.in) requires a 100 percent complete profile before it allows you to click Apply against NIACL. Only after that can you proceed to beep.bfsissc.com for form completion and fee payment. The application window runs just 13 days i.e., June 23 to July 6. The exam is July 12, giving six days between registration close and exam day. Any delay on NATS will cost preparation time. Register on NATS as soon as possible, complete the profile, apply for NIACL on NATS the same day, and move to the BFSI portal for the remaining steps.

How the Competition Splits Across States

The state you choose is locked from the moment you submit the form. Maharashtra's 138 seats will draw the highest absolute number of applicants also NIACL's head office is in Mumbai, and the commercial graduate pool in that state is unmatched. Tamil Nadu at 46 and Delhi at 37 will also see comparable pressure in density. States with 5 or 6 seats like Jharkhand, Haryana etc. will also not be easier as the shortlisting ratio is 3 candidates per seat, so even small-seat states produce a competitive written-test cutoff. Also the language requirement plays a important role: states with stricter enforcement of the regional language standard at verification can eliminate candidates with solid written scores, therefore, know the language requirement of your chosen state before applying.
