BEML Operator Recruitment 2026: Quick Introduction

BEML Limited, formerly known as Bharat Earth Movers Limited, was established in May 1964 and has since grown into a multi-technology company with manufacturing units spread across Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields, Mysuru, and Palakkad. The company operates under 3 major business verticals: Defence & Aerospace, Mining & Construction, and Rail & Metro. It manufactures high mobility vehicles, metro rail coaches, bulldozers, dump trucks, and a range of defence equipment. BEML is a significant player in India's public sector landscape.
A positive sides of this recruitment is the combination of a central government PSU employer, a clear eligibility pathway for ITI holders, and a selection process that is entirely on a written test. Unlike many other recruitments that include multiple layers of skill tests or interviews that can be strict for the candidates.
One important thing to note is that this is not a permanent position and Selected candidates will be engaged for a maximum period of 4 years, with the tenure ending automatically on completion of that period. However, for candidates looking to get their foot in the door of a defence PSU, this can serve as a valuable entry point. BEML's track record with tenure based hiring suggests that high-performing individuals often find themselves considered for other opportunities within the organisation's ecosystem, even if the contract itself does not guarantee permanency.

Vacancy Details

The 362 posts split across five trades, each carrying its own category-wise breakup, which are shown below:

Fitter and Turner together account for 220 of the 362 posts that is over half (over 60 percent) of the total vacancies, Candidates from these two trades have a significantly higher chance of selection purely based on the number of available positions. However, this also means these two trades will attract the largest number of applicants. Welder and Machinist candidates, on the other hand, face fewer vacancies but also a smaller applicant pool typically, since these trades are more specialised.

One important thing to note is that: every one of these 362 posts is tenure-based for four years, your postings will not be permanent regardless of trade or category.

Application Fee

General, EWS, and OBC candidates are required to pay a non-refundable fee of Rs. 200 at the end of the application form. SC, ST, and PwD candidates are exempted from paying any fee (Nil)

he fee is to be paid online during the application submission process itself. No other mode of payment is accepted. Since the fee is non-refundable, candidates should double-check their eligibility before making the payment, since incomplete or wrong particulars lead to outright rejection regardless of fee payment.

Age Limit

The reference date for Age, along with qualification is as on 10 July 2026, the same date as the application deadline.

Category

Upper Age Limit

GEN/EWS29 years
SC/ST34 years
OBC32 years
PwDAdditional 10 years over the SC/ST/OBC-NCL relaxation already applicable

The relaxation for PwD candidates is available only to those with a minimum of 40 percent disability. The reference date for age calculation is 10 July 2026, which is also the last date for submitting applications. Candidates who will cross the age limit on or before this date are not eligible. There is no mention of any relaxation for Ex-Servicemen or other categories beyond what is stated above, so candidates from those backgrounds should check the official notification (available in the Important Links section toward end of the page) for any specific provisions.

Educational Qualification

The eligibility criteria is slightly strict, Candidates must have completed their ITI course with a first-class (60 percent) in the respective trade under the conventional training pattern of the Craftsmen Training Scheme. Additionally, they must possess both:
> National Trade Certificate (NTC) issued by the National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT)
> National Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC) under the respective trade issued by the Directorate General of Training (DGT)
Note: Both certificates are mandatory. Candidates who have only the NTC but not the NAC are not eligible.

The minimum percentage of marks is relaxable by 5 percent for SC/ST/PwD candidates, meaning SC/ST/PwD candidates with 55 percent in their ITI are also eligible to apply.

The ITI course must have been completed as a regular candidate under the conventional training pattern. Distance learning or part-time ITI courses are not accepted.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of three stages: a Computer Based Written Test, Document Verification, and a Pre-employment Medical Examination.

Written Test: The computer-based test will be of 2 hours duration and will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions, each carrying 1 mark. There is no negative marking. The test is divided into three parts:
Part I: 20 questions on General Awareness
Part II: 20 questions on English & Reasoning
Part III: 60 questions on the concerned trade/discipline

The pass marks for the written test are fixed at 45 percent for General/EWS/OBC candidates, and 40 percent for SC/ST/PwD candidates (relaxed by 5 percent).

Document Verification: Candidates who qualify in the written test will be called for document verification in the order of merit. The number of candidates called for this stage will be limited to the number of vacancies notified, category-wise. This means if there are 34 OBC vacancies for Fitter, only the top 34 OBC candidates in the merit list for that trade will be called for verification. All original certificates will be scrutinised at this stage, and only those found meeting the required criteria will be considered for selection.

Medical Examination: Candidates who clear document verification will be issued a provisional offer and will undergo a pre-employment medical examination. No relaxation in health standards is allowed.

Salary, Job Location, and Service Conditions

Salary structure is shown below:

An annual increase of 3 percent on the Basic Pay is admissible during the tenure, subject to satisfactory performance. Provident Fund contribution is calculated on Basic Pay + Dearness Allowance. Other benefits include Gratuity (as per the Gratuity Scheme) and Bonus (as per the Bonus Act).
The engagement is on tenure basis for a maximum period of four years from the date of joining. The tenure ends automatically on completion of four years without any further notice. Either party can terminate the engagement by giving one month's notice in writing or by payment of one month's Basic Pay + DA in lieu of notice.
Selected candidates will be posted to any of BEML's manufacturing complexes or business locations across India. The company has manufacturing units in Bengaluru, Kolar Gold Fields, Mysuru, and Palakkad. No request for change of posting will be entertained. Candidates should be prepared for mobility and should not apply if they have strong location preferences.
The tenure-based engagement does not confer any right to claim the status of a regular employee of the company. This is a contractual arrangement, and candidates should view it as such. However, for candidates early in their careers, four years of experience with a defence PSU can open doors to other opportunities, both within and outside the public sector.

Before applying, candidates should carefully understand these important practical insights about this recruitment:

This Is Not a Permanent Government Job, Despite the PSU Tag

BEML carries the Government of India Undertaking label, which leads many candidates to assume this is a regular sarkari naukri with job security comparable to a permanent post, but as per official notification the tenure engagement is four years, and ends automatically without further notice, and confers no right to claim regular employee status afterward. also both BEML and the candidate can end the engagement early with one month's notice, which makes this closer to a fixed-term contract role than a career-long government position.

The Written Test Alone Decides Everything, No Interview Cushion

With no interview stage the call for document verification capped exactly at the vacancy count per trade and category, this selection process leaves no room for a strong personal evaluation round to overcome a weaker written score. Your rank within your specific trade and category combination has to fall inside the actual number of seats advertised, which is a stricter bar than the absence of negative marking might suggest at first glance.
