Educational Qualification

A graduation degree in any discipline from a recognised university, completed by 1st July 2026, is enough to apply for this Assistant post, and there is no subject restriction and no minimum percentage requirement.

Selection Process

Selection runs through two online objective exams followed by a qualifying language test. The Preliminary Exam is 100 marks across three sections in 60 minutes, and the Main Exam is 200 marks across five sections in 120 minutes.

Note: marks obtained in the Preliminary Examination are not considered for the final merit list, as it is only a qualifying stage used to shortlist candidates for the Main Examination. Candidates will be shortlisted for the Main Examination category-wise and State/UT-wise, subject to a maximum of about 15 times the number of vacancies. The final selection and merit list are prepared solely on the basis of the marks obtained in the Main Examination, subject to qualifying the Regional Language Test.

The Regional Language Test is qualifying in nature, which means its marks are not added to the final merit list. However, qualifying this test is mandatory for final selection. Candidates who perform well in the Main Examination but fail at the required proficiency in the regional language of the State or Union Territory for which they applied will not be considered for final appointment

Both the Preliminary Examination and the Main Examination have a negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer, but there is no penalty for unanswered questions. Candidates should also note that, after qualifying the required stages of the selection process, shortlisted candidates must also satisfy the prescribed medical fitness standards before final appointment. 

Salary, Job Location and Service Conditions

Selected candidates will be appointed in the pay scale of ₹36,290 to ₹1,00,865, along with applicable allowances as per company rules. The starting gross monthly emoluments are approximately ₹53,000 in a metro city, though the actual salary may vary depending on the place of posting and applicable allowances.

Apart from the basic pay, selected candidates will also be eligible for various allowances and employee welfare benefits as per NICL rules such as, domiciliary medical benefits, Group Mediclaim coverage for hospitalisation, Leave Travel Subsidy (LTS), and other staff welfare schemes applicable to employees of the company.

Selected candidates will initially be posted in the State or Union Territory for which they have applied and been selected. However, NICL reserves the right to transfer employees to any office in India based on administrative requirements even before the standard five-year period at the initial place of posting is complete, so, candidates should be prepared for the possibility of transfer during their service in accordance with the company's transfer policy.

Selected candidates will be placed on probation for a minimum of six months, which may be extended if their performance is not found satisfactory. Also, if a candidate resigns or their service is terminated during the probation period, they may be required to refund the salary received during the period of service along with ₹25,000 towards training expenses, subject to the terms and conditions mentioned by NICL.
