MP Police Constable Driver Recruitment 2026: Quick Intro

The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB) has announced recruitment for 1,000 Aarakshak (Chalak) posts, which refers to Constable Driver positions in the Madhya Pradesh Police. The vacancies are open to male candidates only, with 200 posts in the Special Armed Force and 800 posts in the District Force. The online application process will be open from 15 October to 29 October 2026. The Computer-Based Test (CBT) is scheduled to begin from 4 January 2027.

The vacancy count is lower than the 7,500 Constable (GD) posts announced by MPESB about a month earlier. However, the pay scale of β‚Ή19,500 to β‚Ή62,000 and the Class 10 educational qualification make this recruitment relevant to a large number of job seekers.

Unlike a regular Constable recruitment, this post has a specific driving requirement. Candidates must have a valid heavy vehicle driving licence, and they must also clear a separate practical driving trade test as part of the selection process. The examination schedule is also later than the MPESB July 2026 calendar, which had indicated November 2026 for the Constable (Driver) examination. Under the revised schedule, candidates have a little over two months between the application closing date and the first examination date.

Vacancy Details

Out of the 1,000 vacancies, 200 posts are in the Special Armed Force (SAF) and 800 posts are in the District Force. The department-wise and category-wise vacancy distribution is provided below:

Note: Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates are not eligible for reservation in this recruitment. This is based on a 1995 Home Department circular, under which the Police Department is excluded from such reservation.

The 13% vacancy bracket requires special attention. These posts are marked as notional under the Unreserved (UR) category and provisional under the OBC category. A total of 130 out of the 1,000 vacancies fall under this bracket. The total number of vacancies may increase or decrease during the selection process. Therefore, candidates should treat the category-wise vacancy figures as indicative until the final selection stage.

The Scheduled Tribe (ST) category has the largest share, with 200 posts, and ST candidates are also required to have only a Class 8 qualification. For candidates applying under the Unreserved (UR) category, the main vacancy pool consists of 270 posts. Reserved-category candidates who qualify on merit without any relaxation may also be considered against UR vacancies before being counted under their respective reserved categories.
Candidates from other states can apply only for Unreserved posts. As a result, the UR category is likely to attract competition from both eligible candidates within Madhya Pradesh and applicants from other states.

Application Fee

Unreserved (UR) candidates must pay a Board examination fee of β‚Ή500, while SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates who are domiciled in Madhya Pradesh pay β‚Ή250. In addition, a separate Police Department fee of β‚Ή200 for UR candidates and β‚Ή100 for the eligible reserved-category candidates applies. MP Online also charges a portal fee of β‚Ή60 for applications submitted through a kiosk or β‚Ή20 for registered users applying online themselves.

The application fee can be paid through debit card, credit card or net banking. Candidates who do not have access to these facilities can submit their applications and make payments through an MP Online kiosk.
Each subsequent correction to the application form costs β‚Ή20 plus a portal fee of β‚Ή40. If a candidate changes their category from reserved to Unreserved (UR), they must pay the applicable fee difference. However, if the category is changed from UR to reserved, any excess amount paid will not be refunded.

Age Limit

The minimum age is 18 years, while the maximum age is calculated as on 29 October 2026. The applicable upper-age relaxations are available only to candidates domiciled in Madhya Pradesh, subject to the prescribed eligibility conditions.

Ex-Servicemen can deduct their previous defence service from their age, provided the resulting age does not exceed the prescribed upper-age limit by more than 3 years. Retrenched government employees can deduct up to 7 years of temporary service, subject to the same condition. If a candidate qualifies for more than one age relaxation, only the single most beneficial relaxation will be applied. The relaxations cannot be combined.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed Class 10 under the 10+2 system from a recognised board, or hold a Higher Secondary or equivalent qualification. However, Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates are required to have passed only Class 8 or an equivalent examination.
All required educational certificates must be obtained on or before 29 October 2026 to meet the eligibility conditions.

A valid heavy vehicle driving licence is mandatory for all candidates applying for this recruitment. Candidates should ensure that their licence remains valid and keep it ready for document verification during the physical test stage.

A candidate with more than two living children, where at least one child was born on or after 26 January 2001, is not eligible to apply. Candidates currently employed in government service must obtain prior permission from their appointing authority. If selected, they must also submit a resignation accepted by their previous employer, as required under the recruitment conditions.

Candidates who have been removed from government or semi-government service or declared unfit on disciplinary grounds are not eligible for this recruitment. Similarly, Ex-Servicemen dismissed from the Army for misconduct cannot apply. Volunteer Nagar Sainik personnel and non-commissioned officers must have completed at least three years of active service by the last date of application to meet the eligibility requirements.

Selection Process

The selection process consists of two stages. The first stage is an online written examination conducted by MPESB. The second stage is conducted by the Police Department and includes the Physical Efficiency Test (PET), driving trade test, document verification, character verification and medical examination. There is no interview.
The online written test consists of 100 multiple-choice questions carrying 100 marks, with a total duration of 2 hours. Candidates receive 1 mark for each correct answer, and there is no negative marking. The questions are based on the Class 8 level syllabus of the Madhya Pradesh Board. The subject-wise distribution is as follows:
1. General Knowledge and Reasoning: 40 marks
2. Mental Ability and Aptitude: 30 marks
3. Science and Simple Arithmetic: 30 marks

Candidates are shortlisted for the physical stage at seven times the advertised vacancies in each vertical category, based on the cutoff percentile. The Special Armed Force and District Force follow a common cutoff. Candidates who score exactly the cutoff percentile are also called for the next stage, even if this increases the number beyond seven times the vacancies. The cutoff will be determined after the examination, so the actual qualifying percentile is not known in advance. Horizontal reservation categories do not have separate cutoffs. For examinations conducted in multiple shifts, scores are normalised using MPESB's prescribed percentile method to account for differences between shifts.

The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) consists of a single 800-metre run, carrying 40 marks. Candidates get only one attempt and must score at least 8 marks out of 40 to qualify for the next stage. For general candidates, completing the run in approximately 185 seconds (3 minutes 5 seconds) or less earns the minimum 8 marks, while 40 marks require a time of 124.2 seconds or less. Marks decrease by roughly one mark for every 1.9 seconds of additional time. Candidates taking more than 198.3 seconds receive zero marks. A relaxed timing table applies to Home Guards and Ex-Servicemen. Under this table, approximately 210.5 seconds earns 8 marks, while 146.5 seconds or less earns the full 40 marks. A time exceeding 224.5 seconds results in zero marks.

Note: The detailed marking scheme for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is provided in Schedule I (ΰ€…ΰ€¨ΰ₯ΰ€Έΰ₯‚ΰ€šΰ₯€-ΰ€ΰ€•), from page 15 onwards of the Official Notification PDF. Candidates should refer to these pages for the complete timing and marks distribution.

The prescribed height and chest measurements are mandatory, with no relaxation at any stage. Wherever a minimum chest measurement is specified, candidates must demonstrate at least 5 cm of chest expansion to meet the physical standards.

The driving trade test is qualifying in nature, but candidates must pass it to proceed in the selection process. The District Medical Board examines candidates for height, chest measurements, eyesight and overall physical fitness. The prescribed vision standard is 6/9 in the better eye and 6/12 in the other eye without glasses. Candidates must also have normal colour vision. Conditions such as knock-knee and flat foot may lead to rejection under the medical standards.
For the Constable Driver post, meeting the prescribed eyesight requirements is particularly important. Candidates should review the medical standards carefully before applying.

The written examination helps shortlist candidates, but the physical tests, driving trade test and document verification are equally important in the final selection process. Meeting the eligibility conditions on paper alone does not guarantee selection. Candidates must qualify in the physical and trade tests and meet the prescribed requirements for final merit consideration, which is based on the written examination percentile as specified in the page no. 19 onwards of the Official notification PDF. Therefore, prepare for both the written examination and the 800-metre run, and keep all required documents ready.

Salary, Job Location, and Service Conditions

The post carries a pay scale of β‚Ή19,500 to β‚Ή62,000, along with other allowances admissible under Madhya Pradesh Government rules, as sanctioned from time to time. Candidates appointed on or after 1 January 2005 will be covered under the defined-contribution pension scheme, rather than the old pension scheme.

Selected candidates will undergo a three-year probation period and must complete the prescribed training. During probation, the stipend is paid as a percentage of the minimum of the pay scale:
First year: 70% of the minimum pay scale
Second year: 80% of the minimum pay scale
Third year: 90% of the minimum pay scale

The posts are under the Madhya Pradesh Police, but selected candidates may also be posted in other police branches or state government departments, both within and outside Madhya Pradesh. Posting in departments or agencies such as the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) or the Special Police Establishment (Lokayukta) may be made without the candidate’s consent. Candidates will not be posted in their home district. After joining a unit, candidates must complete at least five years of service in that unit before becoming eligible for a transfer to another unit.

Job Duties and Training: Drivers in the Police Transport Department may operate various vehicles, including jeeps, vans, buses and trucks. Duty hours depend on operational requirements. Training includes physical and mental conditioning, along with weapons handling. The notification states that the department will not be responsible for injuries sustained during training.
Note: Trainees who fail the prescribed training will be given one additional chance. However, candidates who remain absent on the scheduled training date may be removed from the selection list, and a medical certificate will not be accepted as a reason for absence.
