MPESB Subedar/SI Recruitment 2026: Quick Intro

Madhya Pradesh Police Headquarters has announced 507 vacancies for Subedar and Sub Inspector posts. The Madhya Pradesh Employees Selection Board (MPESB) will conduct the recruitment process on behalf of the department. Online applications will be accepted from 9 September to 23 September 2026. The written examination is scheduled for 28 October 2026 and will be conducted in two shifts at examination centres across Madhya Pradesh.
The Madhya Pradesh Police conducts the Subedar and Sub Inspector recruitment through a combined examination for seven different posts. These include regular policing positions as well as specialised roles in Arms, Photography, Forensic Documents and Fingerprinting.  The current recruitment is not a one-time drive. MPESB had conducted a previous Subedar and Sub Inspector recruitment for around 500 posts, which concluded in April 2026, with the final results released in July 2026.

The 7 posts in this recruitment are covered through a common preliminary examination, but eligibility varies by post. Candidates with a general graduation degree can apply for the 3 non-technical posts, which together account for 462 of the 507 vacancies. Candidates meeting the specific technical qualifications, such as a mechanical engineering diploma or a science degree with Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, can also apply for the 45 technical vacancies across 4 specialised categories.


Vacancy Details

The post-wise and category-wise vacancy details are given below:


*The Sub Inspector (District Police Force) post has the highest number of vacancies, with 312 of the 507 seats with 35% reservation for women. The Sub Inspector (SAF) post, on the other hand, is reserved entirely for male candidates. While, The technical posts have much fewer vacancies, such as, Questioned Documents has only 4 seats, while the vacancies in Arms and Photography are also in single digits. These posts have specific educational eligibility, so the number of eligible applicants is also more limited than in the general posts.


Application Fee

The application fee is Rs.500 for unreserved candidates. SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates who are domiciled in Madhya Pradesh need to pay Rs.250. An additional MP Online portal fee is charged, which is Rs.60 for applications submitted through a kiosk operator and Rs.20 for candidates applying themselves as registered citizen users.

Note: The fee paid during the initial application covers only the preliminary examination and candidates who qualify for the prelim and are eligible to appear for the main examination must pay a separate processing fee. The fee is Rs.200 for unreserved candidates and Rs.100 for SC, ST, OBC and EWS candidates, which is collected by MPESB before the main exam. 

Candidates who need to correct their category or other details after submitting the application must pay a Rs.20 correction fee for each correction, along with a Rs.40 MP Online portal fee. The correction window will remain open from 9 September to 28 September 2026.


Age Limit

The prescribed age range is 18 to 33 years, with age calculated as on 23 September 2026, the last date for submitting the online application. The category-wise upper age limits are given below: 

Note: Candidates who are not permanent residents of Madhya Pradesh can apply only under the unreserved category and are not eligible for any age relaxation. Their maximum age remains 33 years, regardless of any other category or status.
*If a candidate qualifies for more than one age relaxation, only the single highest applicable relaxation will be granted. Multiple relaxations cannot be combined.

Selection Process

The selection process is conducted in two stages. The first stage is a preliminary objective examination carrying 100 marks with a duration of 2 hours. It covers Hindi and English comprehension, analytical ability, history, geography, science, civics, basic computer knowledge, reasoning and current affairs. There is no negative marking in the preliminary exam.
The second stage includes the main written examination, Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and interview. For non-technical posts, the main exam consists of two papers of 300 marks each. Candidates applying for technical posts have to appear for an additional 300-mark paper. The PET carries 100 marks, while the interview carries 50 marks.

*The preliminary exam is only a qualifying stage, and its marks are not added to the final merit list. Candidates are shortlisted for the main examination based on their preliminary performance, with up to 10 times the number of vacancies in each post category moving forward.

The main examination has negative marking, with one-third of a mark deducted for each incorrect answer. After the main examination, candidates are shortlisted for the Physical Efficiency Test (PET) and interview in a ratio of three times the number of vacancies. Candidates must also secure at least 30 marks in the PET for non-technical posts and 20 marks for technical posts to remain eligible for further selection. Final merit is prepared using the marks obtained in the main examination, Physical Efficiency Test and interview.

*The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) date cannot be changed once it has been allotted. MPESB does not allow rescheduling on medical or other grounds and since the examination is conducted in multiple shifts, MPESB uses a percentile-based normalisation process to compare candidates across shifts. As a result, candidates with the same raw score in different shifts may receive different percentile scores based on the overall performance in their respective shifts.

Salary, Job Location, and Service Conditions

All seven posts carry Level 9 in the state pay matrix, with a pay scale of Rs.36,200 to Rs.1,14,800. During the 3-year probation period, candidates receive a stipend based on the minimum pay of the scale: 70% in the first year, 80% in the second year and 90% in the third year. Full pay applies after completion of the probation period.

Selected candidates can be posted anywhere in Madhya Pradesh within the Police Department. They may also be posted to other departments or establishments, including the Economic Offences Wing and Lokayukta Police, as decided by the state government. Candidate consent is not required for such postings.
Candidates will not be posted in their own home district. After being posted to a unit, they must complete at least five years of service there before becoming eligible for transfer. For postings in Naxal-affected areas, Subedars and Sub Inspectors become eligible for promotion only after completing two years of service in the concerned area.
