Indian Overseas Bank Officer Recruitment 2026: Quick Intro

Indian Overseas Bank has opened applications for 291 Generalist and Specialist Officer vacancies across JMGS-I, MMGS-II, and MMGS-III. The application window is open from 29 August to 15 September 2026, with roles covering areas such as branch management, credit, risk management, cybersecurity, and physical security.
Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) is a Chennai-headquartered public sector bank with a nationwide branch network and a presence in a limited number of overseas locations. IOB has been on a clear growth trajectory through 2026, expanding its operations through new branch additions and stronger financial performance, and this recruitment reflects the resulting need for additional manpower across both generalist and specialised functions.

This recruitment is significantly broader than IOB's previous Specialist Officer (SO) drive. The September 2025 recruitment, issued under Advertisement No. HRDD/RECT/03/2025-26, offered 127 specialist posts but the 2026 notification increases the specialist intake to 191 posts, while also adding a separate 100-post Generalist Officer stream for Branch Management, which was not part of the previous recruitment.

This recruitment should be read as two parallel officer recruitments under a single advertisement. The Branch Management (Generalist Officer) stream has its own eligibility criteria and applicant pool, while the Specialist Officer stream consists of discipline-specific posts with separate qualifications and experience requirements.

Vacancy Details

The 291 vacancies are distributed across 14 distinct posts. Post Code 01, Manager (Branch Management) is the only Generalist Officer position, while the remaining 13 posts fall under the Specialist Officer posts, covering areas such as IT, Information Security, Credit, Risk Management, and Physical Security. The complete post-wise and category-wise vacancy distribution is provided below

Note: IOB has clearly stated that the advertised vacancy figures are provisional. The bank may increase or decrease the number of vacancies depending on its actual staffing requirements at the time of selection.

Application Fee

The category-wise application fee requirements for this recruitment are provided below:

Note: The application fee can be paid only through the online payment gateway, using Debit Card, Credit Card, Internet Banking, UPI, or BHIM. Once paid, the fee is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted against any future IOB recruitment.

Educational Qualification

Since the 14 posts have different educational and experience requirements, the eligibility criteria are easier to understand when examined cluster-wise by role and specialisation, as detailed below:

Branch Management (Post 01): Candidates must hold a degree in any discipline from a recognised university and have at least 3 years of officer-level experience in a Scheduled Public or Private Sector Bank, including a minimum of 2 years in branch banking. IOB has also stated that candidates with experience as a Scale-I Branch Head will be preferred.

IT posts (Posts 02 and 05): Candidates must hold one of the prescribed qualifications, such as a B.E./B.Tech in Computer Science, IT, Electronics & Communication, or Electronics & Instrumentation, an MCA, or an M.Sc. in Computer Science/IT. The Manager grade needs 5 years of IT experience with at least 3 in Banking/BFSI; the Senior Manager grade needs 8 years with at least 5 in BFSI.
Candidates must also have hands-on expertise in at least one of the 15 specified technology domains, covering areas such as full-stack development, cloud engineering, DevSecOps, and IT procurement.

Information Security, IS Audit and Cyber Security Administrator posts (Posts 03, 04, 06, 07, 10): Candidates need the prescribed engineering or postgraduate qualification in areas such as Computer Science, IT, Electronics & Communication, Cyber Security, or Information Security, along with 2 to 5 years of relevant experience, depending on the grade.
The experience areas include specialised domains such as web and mobile application security testing, source-code review, red teaming, and AI/LLM security testing. Several posts also list certifications such as OSCP, CISSP, and GIAC as preferred qualifications, so candidates holding relevant certifications should clearly highlight them in their application..

Database Administrator and Network Administrator (Posts 08 and 09): These roles have highly specialised technical requirements, such as, Database Administrator (Post 08) requires 8 years of database administration experience, including at least 5 years in production environments and 3 years in the BFSI sector. Oracle OCA/OCP certification is mandatory and Network Administrator (Post 09) requires 5 years of experience in network operations, along with hands-on exposure to Cisco FTD, Check Point firewalls, and Cisco ACI/Nexus. Candidates must also hold at least a CCNA-level certification in security or routing.

Credit and Risk posts (Posts 11, 12, 13): These positions require a combination of specialised qualifications and relevant financial-sector experience.
1. Credit Officer (Post 11 - Scale II) requires MBA (Finance), PGDBA, PGDBM, CA, or CMA, along with 3 years of banking or financial institution experience, including at least 2 years in credit.
2. Credit Officer (Post 12 - Scale III) requires the same prescribed qualifications, with 6 years of banking or financial institution experience, including at least 4 years in credit.
3. Risk Officer (Post 13 - Scale III) candidates need either a postgraduate qualification in Finance/Statistics or a graduate degree combined with a GARP or PRMIA risk certification, along with 5 years of relevant experience in risk, credit, forex, or treasury functions within banking, NBFCs, or financial institutions.

Assistant Manager Security (Post 14): This post has a different eligibility profile from the other positions and it is open to retired JCOs or equivalent personnel from the Army, Navy, or Air Force who have completed at least 5 years in that rank, or to retired Police Inspectors, Sub-Inspectors, or above with at least 5 years of service. Candidates must also meet the prescribed medical fitness standard of SHAPE-1 or equivalent, have an exemplary service record, and have no disciplinary or vigilance record. A graduate degree and at least a 3-month computer certification are additionally required.
This is therefore not a conventional civilian security-management position; it is specifically designed for candidates with defence or police service backgrounds

Selection Process

All posts follow a two-stage selection process consisting of an Online Examination followed by a Personal Interview. However, the online examination pattern and syllabus vary by post, as detailed below:

Generalist Officer (Branch Management) in Scale II, exam pattern & syllabus

The exam pattern and syllabus for the remaining posts across Scale I, II, and III

Note: There is no separate minimum qualifying mark in English or General Awareness. However, candidates must secure at least 35% in Professional Knowledge for the unreserved category and 30% for reserved categories. The online examination also carries negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
The Personal Interview carries 100 marks and evaluates candidates on role-related industry experience, subject knowledge, and communication skills. The minimum qualifying score is 50% for unreserved candidates and 45% for reserved candidates.

For the final merit list, the Online Examination carries 80% weightage, while the Personal Interview carries 20%. This means the online exam has the greater influence on final selection, but candidates must still clear the interview's minimum qualifying marks.

Note: IOB may shortlist only a limited number of applicants for the Online Examination based on their qualifications, experience, and overall profile suitability. Therefore, meeting the minimum eligibility criteria doesn't automatically guarantee an exam call letter. Candidates with stronger and more relevant qualifications and experience may have an advantage during the shortlisting stage.

Salary, Job Location and Service Conditions

The grade-wise pay scales prescribed for the posts under this recruitment are as follows:

**In addition to the basic pay, selected candidates will receive Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), and City Compensatory Allowance (CCA) as applicable under the bank's rules in force at the time of joining.

Selected candidates may be posted anywhere in India and are liable to be transferred as per the bank's requirements and discretion. The probation period varies by post:

Selected candidates must execute a Financial Service Indemnity Bond as a condition of appointment:
> JMGS-I posts=> Rs.2,00,000
> MMGS-II and MMGS-III posts=> Rs.2,50,000
The bond requires the selected officer to complete a minimum of 3 years of active service with the bank.

Note:
Specialist Officers joining in MMGS-II and MMGS-III are eligible for several additional facilities from the probation period itself, these include conveyance expenses, newspaper expenses, telephone reimbursement, residential furniture, and bank-owned or leased accommodation, along with applicable rental advance and brokerage support.

Conclusion

At Apna Updates, we focus on providing only the relevant and important information from recruitment notifications so that you can understand the requirements clearly and make an informed application.

For this recruitment, the most important step is to match your profile with the correct post code, with 14 posts having different age limits, qualifications, and experience requirements, choosing a post simply because its pay scale looks attractive can lead to an eligibility issue after you have already paid the non-refundable application fee. Also, candidates applying for technical, credit, or risk-related posts should organise their experience certificates and professional certification documents well in advance rather than waiting until the interview stage. IOB requires documentary evidence to support the experience and certifications claimed in the application, so keeping these records ready can help avoid verification issues later.

Candidates should regularly check the official IOB website for the exam date and admit card release after the application window closes. Since call letters are communicated through the registered email address, candidates should also monitor their inbox regularly and ensure that important messages are not missed. (You can also bookmark this page for quick reference and follow our Telegram and WhatsApp channels to receive important recruitment updates and notifications without missing any major announcement)
