Important Certificate Rules
EWS Certificate - Critical Validity Requirement
Candidates seeking EWS reservation must ensure their Income and Asset Certificate is valid for Financial Year 2026-2027. This certificate must be issued on the basis of income for Financial Year 2025-2026.
For example: If the last date for application receipt is 30 April 2026, the Income and Asset Certificate must be valid for Financial Year 2026–27, based on the income of Financial Year 2025-26.
Reference: DoP&T OM No. 36039/1/2019-Estt.(Res.) dated 31 January 2019.
OBC Candidates - Creamy Layer Rules
OBC candidates applying for reserved posts must ensure their caste is listed in the Central List of OBCs. Only those listed under Central List are eligible for appointment to Central Services.
Additionally, OBC candidates must submit a certificate declaring non-belonging to the creamy layer along with their application. Without this certificate, OBC reservation claims will not be accepted.
How to Apply - Step-by-Step
This recruitment follows a completely offline (physical) application process. Here's how to go about it:
Step 1: Download or note the Annexure-I application format from the official notification.
Step 2: Fill the application form clearly in English or Hindi (block letters where specified).
Step 3: Attach a recent passport-size photograph (duly self-attested).
Step 4: Attach the following self-attested documents:
- Birth Certificate (proof of date of birth)
- Educational qualification certificates
- Caste certificate (for SC/ST/OBC candidates)
- EWS certificate (if applicable)
- Discharge book (for ex-servicemen)
- PwBD Medical Certificate in Annexure-II format (if applicable)
- Experience certificate (for CMTD post)
- Valid driving license (for CMTD post)
Step 6: Mention clearly on the envelope: "APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF _______ AND CATEGORY _______"
Step 7: Submit separate applications for each post applied for.
Step 8: Send the application to the specific Air Force Station/Unit mentioned against the vacancy of your choice - within 30 days from the date of publication of this advertisement in Employment News/Rozgar Samachar.
Critical: IAF will not be held responsible for any postal delays. Applications received before or after the publication date of this notification will not be entertained.
General Instructions - Things Candidates Often Miss
- Candidates may submit applications to any Air Force Station where they meet the eligibility requirements for the post.
- No travel allowance or daily allowance will be provided for appearing in the recruitment process.
- Test venue details will be informed separately to shortlisted applicants and may not be the same as the unit where the application was sent.
- Appointed candidates can be posted anywhere in India as per service requirements.
Those attending skill, practical, or physical tests must carry original documents along with photocopies.
Examinations for different categories may be held at the same time.
If exams for multiple applied posts are scheduled on the same date, no alternate test will be arranged. Candidates must choose which post to appear for.
Candidate-Centric Section: What Others Don't Tell You
Understanding the "Station Preference" Model
Unlike most central government jobs where you apply to a centralized authority, this IAF recruitment is station-specific. This means your application directly goes to the station/unit where the vacancy exists. Your merit will be evaluated locally by that particular station. This has two implications:
- Competition is localized - you are not competing with candidates from the entire country but from those who applied to the same station
- Choice of location matters - a station in a smaller city might have fewer applicants compared to a metro station, even for the same post
Typing Speed - The Real Filter
Many candidates clear the written test comfortably but fall at the typing stage. Here's what candidates frequently get wrong:
- The speed requirement is 10500 KDPH for English and 9000 KDPH for Hindi - this is measured in key depressions, not just words
- 5 key depressions are counted per word on average
- You have only 10 minutes - time management during practice is critical
- Errors reduce effective speed, so accuracy matters as much as raw speed
If you are sitting for this test, practice on government typing software or platforms that simulate the KDPH measurement method rather than generic word processors.
CMTD Post - Often Overlooked, High Job Security
The Civilian Mechanical Transport Driver post is frequently underestimated. However, this post offers tremendous stability, placement within an Air Force Station, and structured growth. Requirements:
- Valid driving license for both light AND heavy vehicles - not just one
- Minimum 2 years of experience
- Knowledge of motor mechanism - expect trade-related questions in the written test
If you have a driving background and meet the matriculation qualification, this is actually one of the more accessible pathways in this notification.
How to Read Vacancy Tables Strategically
When selecting which station to apply to, cross-check:
- The category earmarked for the post (UR/OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PwBD/ESM)
- Your actual category
- The location and your willingness to serve there
Document Checklist Before Dispatch
Use this checklist before sealing your envelope:
☐ Filled Annexure-I form (complete, no blanks)
☐ Passport-size photograph pasted and self-attested
☐ Date of Birth proof (self-attested)
☐ 12th mark sheet and certificate (self-attested)
☐ Category certificate (self-attested)
☐ EWS certificate if applicable (valid for FY 2026-27)
☐ Discharge book copy (ex-servicemen)

☐ Driving license + experience certificate (CMTD post)
☐ Self-addressed envelope with Rs. 10 stamp

Preparation Tips for Candidates
The typing requirement is not optional. Candidates should practise on a computer keyboard daily. Focus on accuracy first, then speed. Since the required time is 10 minutes, practise in 10-minute slots rather than only doing long typing sessions.
For the written test, prepare basic arithmetic, English grammar, vocabulary, general awareness and reasoning. The standard will be linked to the minimum qualification, so candidates should revise school-level topics properly.
Driver candidates should revise traffic rules, basic vehicle mechanism, safety practices and general awareness. Since the syllabus includes trade/post-related questions, knowledge of driving, light and heavy vehicles, vehicle maintenance basics and motor mechanism will be useful.
With only 47 vacancies across multiple posts, competition is expected to be strong. Candidates should prepare seriously for the written test and qualifying skill stages.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Q1. Can I apply to multiple Air Force Stations for the same post? Yes, you can apply to multiple stations. However, you must send separate applications to each station individually. A single application addressed to multiple stations will not be valid.
Q2. Is there any application fee for this recruitment? The notification does not mention any application fee. Based on the information provided, no fee payment is indicated.
Q3. What is the last date to apply? The last date is 30 days from the date of publication of this advertisement in Employment News/Rozgar Samachar, which was published during 2–8 May 2026.
Q4. Can an OBC candidate apply for a UR vacancy? Yes, OBC candidates can apply against UR posts, but they will not receive age relaxation, experience relaxation, or any other concession when applying against UR posts.
Q5. I am a PwBD candidate. Do I still need to appear for the typing test? PwBD candidates who are certified by the Medical Board or Civil Surgeon as unable to type may seek exemption. You must submit a Medical Certificate in Annexure-II format with your application to claim this exemption.
Q6. Will I get to choose my test centre? No. The examination centre will be assigned to you and communicated through your call letter. The centre may differ from the station you applied to.
Q7. I am an ex-serviceman. How will age relaxation work for me? Ex-servicemen who have rendered not less than 6 months of continuous service in the Armed Forces are allowed to deduct the full period of such service from their actual age. If the resulting age does not exceed the prescribed maximum age by more than three years, they shall be considered within age limits.
Q8. What happens if exams for two different posts are scheduled on the same day? No separate exam will be held. The responsibility of deciding which post's exam to appear for lies with the candidate. IAF will not conduct separate tests for candidates who applied to multiple posts.
Q9. Does selection guarantee posting at the applied station? Selected candidates are subject to All India Service Liability, meaning posting decisions ultimately rest with IAF authorities. However, vacancies are station-specific, so typically initial placement is at or near the applied station.
Q10. Can a Departmental Employee apply for this recruitment? Yes, departmental employees can apply. They enjoy age relaxation up to 40 years (UR) and 45 years (SC/ST). However, they must meet all other eligibility criteria.
Q11. What if I belong to a caste that is in the State list of OBCs but not in the Central List? You will not be eligible for OBC reservation. Only castes appearing in the Central List of OBCs qualify for reservation in Central Government services, which includes IAF civilian posts.
Q12. Is the typing test held on a physical typewriter or computer? The notification specifies typing on a computer (10500 KDPH for English and 9000 KDPH for Hindi).
