AVNL Recruitment 2026: Quick Intro
Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL) is a Defence Public Sector Undertaking (DPSU) under the Ministry of Defence. It was established in 2021 as part of the restructuring of the former Ordnance Factory Board. AVNL operates major production units, including the Heavy Vehicles Factory and Engine Factory at Avadi, Ordnance Factory Medak, Vehicle Factory Jabalpur, and the Machine Tool Prototype Factory at Ambernath. These facilities manufacture main battle tanks, infantry combat vehicles, military support vehicles, and other defence equipment for the Indian Armed Forces.
This recruitment is being conducted on a Fixed Term Employment (FTE) basis and includes 8 different post categories, ranging from Junior Technician to Consultant. Compared to recent AVNL recruitments, this is a much larger recruitment drive, because AVNL's recent recruitment activity such as, the second half of 2025 and early 2026 was limited to small, unit specific, ranging from 13 posts in one advertisement to around 220 Junior Technician posts in another, and most of them were offline. In contrast, this recruitment offers a significantly higher number of posts through a single online application process, making it one of the major recruitment conducted by AVNL in recent years.
Vacancy Details
The total of 1213 posts is divided into two broad groups => Non-Executive posts, all Junior Technician trades, account for 1005 vacancies and Executive posts, from Junior Manager up to Consultant, make up the remaining 208.
Junior Technician trades (Non-Executive), category-wise total across all units are shown below:
Note: Horizontal reservation within these 1005 posts includes 11 for visually handicapped, 10 for hearing handicapped, 9 for orthopedically handicapped, 9 for multiple disabilities and 108 for Ex-Servicemen.

Also, among these Executive posts, Junior Manager (Mechanical) has the highest number of vacancies, this provides more opportunities for eligible Mechanical Engineering candidates compared to several other executive disciplines. on the other hand, some specialised posts, such as Official Language and Artificial Intelligence, have very limited vacancies.

SC, ST, PwBD, Ex-Servicemen and all female candidates, regardless of category, are exempt from paying any fee.

On the other hand, for Junior Manager, Assistant Manager, and Deputy Manager posts, the required educational qualification varies according to the discipline. Therefore, candidates should carefully check the qualification prescribed for the specific post they wish to apply.
> An Important Note for the candidates: Equivalent Engineering disciplines are also accepted for several posts in this recruitment. Candidates whose degree is in a closely related branch should carefully check the equivalent discipline list provided below, as their qualification may also be considered eligible:
Note: Few senior-level posts in this recruitment have specialised educational qualifications and extensive work experience requirements, for example, Consultant (Finance & Audit), Additional General Manager (Business Development), Deputy General Manager (Company Secretary), Senior Manager (Cyber Security) and Senior Manager (Intellectual Property). These positions are intended for experienced professionals.
Selection Process
The selection process includes a Computer Based Test (CBT) of 100 marks, divided into two parts. Part A carries 50 marks and includes General Awareness, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, and Computer Aptitude, and its difficulty level is Class 10 standard for Junior Technician posts and graduate level for all other posts. Part B also carries 50 marks and tests technical or discipline-specific knowledge. For Junior Technician posts, the questions will be based on the NCVT trade syllabus, while for other posts they will be based on the relevant engineering or professional discipline. The complete CBT exam structure are shown below:
> For Junior Technician posts, the Computer Based Test (CBT) carries 100% weightage in the selection process, and The Trade Test is merely qualifying in nature and is conducted only to assess the required practical skills. This means the final merit list for Junior Technician posts is prepared entirely on the basis of CBT marks. For Junior Manager, Assistant Manager, and Deputy Manager posts, the Computer Based Test (CBT) carries 85% weightage in the final selection process, while the Interview carries the remaining 15% weightage. For Senior Manager, Deputy General Manager, Additional General Manager and Consultant, there is no Computer Based Test (CBT) at all; selection runs entirely through presentation, experience and knowledge assessment followed by an interview at AVNL's Avadi office.
> Candidates who qualify the Computer Based Test (CBT) will be shortlisted for the Interview or Trade Test, as applicable to their post. The normal shortlisting ratio is 1:3 (one vacancy to three candidates) within each category. However, AVNL reserves the right to change this ratio depending on the number of candidates who qualify. All important updates, including the CBT shortlist, Interview/Trade Test call list, and the final selection list, will be published only on the official AVNL website.
Note: The complete official syllabus (Annexure-A) of the Trade Test is available in the Important links section toward end of the page.

Reading these points may give you a better understanding of this recruitment:
How the Exam Pattern Affects Your Preparation
For Junior Technician posts, the Computer Based Test (CBT) is the most important stage of the selection process because the final merit list is prepared entirely on the basis of CBT marks. Unlike some recruitments where selection depends only on academic or trade qualification marks, therefore, candidates must perform well in the written examination to improve their chances of selection. Candidates should prepare for both Part A and Part B of the CBT, and along with technical trade knowledge, equal attention should be given to General Awareness, Reasoning Ability, General English, Quantitative Aptitude, and Computer Aptitude, as these sections also contribute to the final CBT score. The Trade Test is only qualifying in nature, and its marks are not included in the final merit list.
Understanding Fixed Term Employment
The Fixed Term Employment (FTE) offered under this recruitment is not a permanent appointment. The initial contract is for 1 year and may be extended up to a maximum of 4 years, depending on the organisation's requirements and the employee's performance. However, this engagement does not provide any right to regular employment in AVNL. Candidates should also note that the medical benefits provided during the contract are available only for the period of engagement. If the contract is extended, then the pay and other service conditions for the extended period will be decided separately by the company.
