◾️Salary Details

Selected candidates will get an initial basic pay of Rs 19,900 in Pay Level-2. After adding Dearness Allowance, House Rent Allowance, Transport Allowance, and Running Allowance (based on kilometres travelled), the in-hand salary starts from Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000 per month in the beginning.

Other benefits include medical facilities for self and family, pension under New Pension Scheme, leave travel concession, and promotion opportunities. Compared to many other government jobs at the same level, the ALP salary is considered very good because of the running allowance and special perks for loco pilots.

◾️Who Should NOT Apply and Why

  • Do not apply if you are above the age limit even after relaxation.
  • Do not apply if you do not have the required 10th + ITI or Diploma qualification.
  • If you have colour blindness or poor eyesight, you may fail the A-1 medical test – better to avoid applying.
  • If you are not ready to work in shifts, night duties, or away from home for long periods, this job may not suit you.
  • Candidates who cannot clear the Computer Based Aptitude Test should think twice because it is compulsory.

◾️Is This Job Good For Freshers

Yes, this job is excellent for freshers. Many candidates clear RRB ALP right after completing ITI or diploma. The selection process tests basic knowledge and aptitude, not years of experience. With proper preparation of previous papers and mock tests, freshers have a very good chance. Thousands of young candidates join as ALP every year and build a strong career in Railways.

◾️ Is The Salary Worth It

Absolutely yes. Starting salary of Rs 35,000+ with government job security, free medical treatment, pension, and promotion chances makes it one of the best options for 10th + ITI candidates. Compared to private sector jobs or even many state government posts, the total package and respect of a Railway Loco Pilot job is far better.

◾️ Promotion and Career Growth

After joining as Assistant Loco Pilot, the promotion path is clear and fast:

Assistant Loco Pilot β†’ Loco Pilot (after passing departmental exams) β†’ Senior Loco Pilot β†’ Loco Pilot (Mail/Express) β†’ Power Controller / Crew Controller β†’ Higher supervisory posts

With regular promotions, good performance, and passing exams, you can reach very senior positions with salary above Rs 1 lakh per month within 10-15 years. Many ALP officers later become officers in higher grades too.

◾️ Previous Year Cutoff

Previous ALP cutoffs vary by zone and category. In recent recruitments, CBT-1 cutoff for General category stayed around 65-75 marks out of 75, while reserved categories had lower cutoffs. CBT-2 cutoffs are usually 50-60 marks out of 175 for General. Exact previous year cutoffs will be updated once the detailed notification comes, but the trend shows that consistent preparation of 70-80% accuracy is enough to clear the written stages.

◾️Comparison With Similar Jobs

RRB ALP is better than most state police constable or SSC GD jobs in terms of salary and growth. It is similar to SSC JE or other technical railway posts but with higher responsibility and better allowances. Compared to banking jobs like IBPS Clerk, ALP offers better long-term benefits and job satisfaction for technical-minded candidates.

◾️ Common Application Mistakes

Many students lose their chance because of silly mistakes:

  • Uploading old or wrong size photo/signature
  • Entering wrong date of birth or Aadhaar details
  • Paying fee in the wrong category
  • Missing the correction window
  • Not taking printout of the application
  • Always double-check every entry and keep all documents ready before starting the form.

◾️ Real Preparation Advice

Start preparation today even before the detailed notification. Focus on these practical tips:
