Eligibility Criteria

Assistant-II

You need to have passed 12th standard with at least 50% marks. Typing skill is required: 35 WPM in English or 30 WPM in Hindi. Candidates with a graduation degree or computer knowledge may be given preference.

Laboratory Technician

You need a Bachelor’s degree in Biology (Zoology/Chemistry), Microbiology, Biotechnology, or Biochemistry, and a Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT). A B.Sc in Medical Laboratory Technology is also accepted. You must have at least 1 year of practical experience in a medical lab or research institute.

Administrative Assistant

You need a standard graduation degree with 50% marks. NIB requires 5 years of experience in Administration, Stores, or Accounts within a Government or Autonomous organization.

Junior Scientist

You need a Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Biochemistry, or Pharmacology. You also need 1 year of experience in quality control testing or biologicals research.

Junior Hindi Translator

You need a Master’s degree in Hindi (with English at the graduation level) or vice versa. You also need a recognized Translation Diploma or 2 years of professional translation experience.

Scientist Grade-II

Requires an MBBS + PG Medical Degree with 5 years of experience, or an M.Sc in Life Sciences with 60% marks and 7 years of research experience. Ph.D. holders need 3 years of research experience.

Scientist Grade-III (Veterinarian)

Requires an M.V.Sc in Veterinary Medicine, Veterinary Public Health, Veterinary Microbiology, Veterinary Pathology, or Veterinary Epidemiology. You must have 2 years of experience in veterinary practice and laboratory work.

Age Limits

Age Relaxation

Relaxation is provided for reserved categories as per government rules. SC and ST candidates receive a 5-year extension. OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates receive a 3-year extension. Persons with Disabilities (PwD) and Ex-Servicemen also receive standard government age relaxation.

Important Notice

OBC and EWS certificates must be valid up to 08 April 2026. Certificates that are expired or invalid on this date will lead to the rejection of the application.

Two-Phase Application Process

Pay Scale and Benefits

Working at the National Institute of Biologicals provides the benefits of an autonomous institute under the Central Government, following the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). Your salary includes Basic Pay, Dearness Allowance (DA), House Rent Allowance (HRA), Travel Allowance (TA), and medical coverage.

Scientist Grade-II: Pay Level 12. Basic pay starts at Rs 78,800 up to Rs 2,09,200, plus Non-Practicing Allowance (NPA) for medical professionals.

Scientist Grade-III (Veterinarian): Pay Level 10. Basic pay ranges from Rs 56,100 to Rs 1,77,500, plus NPA.

Selection Process

Candidates will be shortlisted through a Computer Based Test (Objective Type), followed by an additional  stages depending on the post applied for. A negative marking of 0.25 marks is applicable for each wrong answer in the Computer Based Test, except for Junior Scientist and Laboratory Technician posts.

Key notes:
For posts with Personal Discussion (Scientist Grade-II & III), candidates are shortlisted at a 1:10 ratio based on CBT merit.
For posts with Skill Test (Administrative Assistant & Assistant-II), candidates are shortlisted at a 1:5 ratio.
For Junior Hindi Translator, selection is based on Paper-II performance, though clearing Paper-I is mandatory.

NIB Exam Preparation Guide

Since the official notification does not clearly mentioned a detailed syllabus, candidates should prepare based on standard topics relevant to their qualifications and similar government recruitment exams.

Laboratory Technician / Junior Scientist
Questions will likely focus on core subjects and practical knowledge. Review microbiology, laboratory techniques, and basic biochemistry. For Junior Scientist roles, prioritize molecular biology concepts and quality control practices. Focus on accuracy to manage negative marking.

Assistant-II (CBT + Typing Test)

Junior Hindi Translator

A Final Note Before You Apply

Applying for a job at NIB can be a bit difficult because their rules are very strict. Following all the rules is just as  important as doing well on the exam. You should also check your work history carefully. NIB only counts work experience from government-approved labs or registered institutions. If you worked at a small private clinic that is not officially registered, they might not count that experience.
