Indian Navy SSC Executive IT Recruitment 2026 Notification Out for 15 Posts
Quick Navigation
The Indian Navy has officially released the notification for Short Service Commission (SSC) in the Executive Branch – Information Technology for the January 2027 Course. This is a commissioned officer entry, not a sailor or civilian job. Selected candidates will be inducted as Sub Lieutenants and will serve in the Navy's IT and cyber operations domain.
Only 15 seats are available across men and women combined. Training will take place at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala, Kerala - Asia's largest naval academy.
About the Indian Navy
The Indian Navy is one of the three branches of the Indian Armed Forces, functioning under the Ministry of Defence, Government of India. Its primary responsibility includes protecting India's maritime borders, conducting naval operations, and securing sea trade routes across the Indian Ocean Region.
The Indian Naval Academy at Ezhimala, Kerala is where all commissioned officers undergo their foundational training before being assigned to ships, submarines, or shore establishments. Officers inducted through the IT entry work in specialised roles covering cyber security, network administration, digital warfare systems, data analytics, and technology-driven naval operations.
This is not a desk job. IT officers in the Navy work in dynamic, high-responsibility environments where technology directly supports national security operations.
Recruitment Summary at a Glance
Vacancy Breakdown
Points to Note About Vacancies
- The 15 vacancies are tentative and subject to change based on training slot availability
- Men and women compete in the same pool – there is no separate gender-wise vacancy split mentioned
- Only one application is allowed per candidate. Submitting multiple applications leads to automatic cancellation of candidature – no exceptions
Age Limit
Understanding the Age Window
Both boundary dates are inclusive. If you were born exactly on 01 January 2002 or exactly on 01 July 2007, you are still eligible.
This notification does not mention any age relaxation for SC, ST, OBC, Ex-Servicemen, or any other category. The NCC relaxation mentioned separately applies only to SSB shortlisting cut-off marks – not to age eligibility.
Educational Qualification – Complete Details
The qualification requirement has two mandatory components. Both must be fulfilled simultaneously.
Component 1 – English Marks Requirement
You must have scored minimum 60% marks in English in either Class X or Class XII.
This is specifically about the English subject marks – not your overall percentage. A candidate with 80% overall but 55% in English is not eligible. Check your marksheet carefully before applying.
Component 2 – Degree Requirement
You must hold one of the following qualifications with minimum 60% overall marks or equivalent CGPA:
Option A – MSc / BE / B.Tech / M.Tech in any of these streams:
Option B – MCA with a supporting undergraduate degree:
- MCA with BCA, OR
- MCA with BSc in Computer Science or Information Technology
Which Universities Are Recognised?
For Indian Degrees:
- Universities incorporated by Central or State Legislature Act
- Institutions established under UGC Act 1956, IIT Act 1961, AICTE Act 1987, NITSER Act 2007, or IIIT Act 2014
- Deemed universities and autonomous universities covered under these acts
For Foreign Degrees:
- The institution must be recognised by the Government of India for the purpose of engineering degrees
- An equivalence certificate from the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), established under AIU Act 1973, is mandatory
Critical Warning on Stream Names
The official notification explicitly states that no equivalent or similar stream beyond those listed above will be accepted at any stage of selection. If your degree stream name is slightly different – for example, "Computer Applications," "IT Management," or "Applied Computer Science" – do not assume it qualifies. Verify with the official notification or contact the Naval headquarters before applying.
Eligibility for Final Year Students
Students currently in their final year of any eligible regular or integrated programme can also apply, provided they have minimum 60% marks in aggregate up to the semesters completed.
However, there is a strict post-selection condition:
Selected candidates must submit proof of completing their qualifying degree with minimum 60% marks by emailing officer@navy.gov.in before June 2026.
Candidates who fail to submit this proof or whose final marks fall below 60% will not be permitted to join INA Ezhimala. The Navy will not entertain any communication regarding this matter once the deadline passes.
Plan your academic timeline accordingly if you are a final year student.
NCC Certificate Relaxation – Full Details
NCC 'C' certificate holders receive a 5% relaxation in SSB shortlisting cut-off marks, but only when all three conditions below are satisfied simultaneously:
What the NCC Relaxation Does NOT Cover
- It does not affect final merit list preparation
- It does not relax medical standards
- It does not apply to age eligibility
- It applies only to the shortlisting cut-off for SSB interview
The certificate will be verified by DG NCC or the concerned NCC unit. If any false declaration, misinformation, or concealment of information is found – candidature will be cancelled at any stage, including after commissioning.
Medical Standards
All candidates recommended by SSB must undergo a medical examination specific to this entry.
Key Medical Rules
- No relaxation in medical standards on any grounds – this is absolute
- Medical hospital or centre cannot be changed under any circumstances
- Tattoo guidelines are mentioned under medical standards – refer to the official website for specifics
- Medical fitness is a prerequisite for final appointment, regardless of SSB performance
Detailed medical standards and guidelines are available at www.joinindiannavy.gov.in. Go through these before applying so you know exactly where you stand medically.
Application Fee
Apply only through the official Indian Navy website: www.joinindiannavy.gov.in
Selection Process – All Four Stages Explained
Stage 1 – Online Application and Academic Shortlisting
Applications are collected online between 16 May and 01 June 2026. Shortlisting is done based on normalised marks obtained in the qualifying degree. The Indian Navy uses a specific normalisation formula to standardise marks across different universities and marking systems.
You can download this formula and calculate an approximate normalised score for yourself before applying.
Semesters Considered for Shortlisting:
Stage 2 – SSB Interview
Shortlisted candidates receive SSB interview intimation via email and SMS on the contact details provided in the application form. This is why changing your email or phone number after applying is strongly discouraged.
SSB Interview – Important Rules:
For Travel Reimbursement – Carry This Document: A photocopy of your bank passbook's first page or a cancelled cheque leaf clearly showing your Name, Account Number, and IFSC Code.
Full SSB procedure details are available at www.joinindiannavy.gov.in. The SSB is a multi-day process testing personality, leadership potential, group behaviour, psychological suitability, and communication – not just academic knowledge.
Stage 3 – Medical Examination
After clearing the SSB, candidates undergo a mandatory medical examination. The standards are strict with no exceptions. Changing the medical centre or hospital is not allowed under any condition. Medical fitness is mandatory to proceed to final appointment.
Stage 4 – Merit List and Final Appointment
The final merit list is prepared based entirely on SSB marks – academic marks do not play a role at this stage. Medically fit candidates are considered for appointment subject to:
- Police verification clearance
- Character verification
- Vacancy availability at the time of joining
Very Important Clarification
Inclusion in the select list or merit list does not guarantee appointment. The Navy's notification clearly states that empanelment is not an enforceable claim to the post. All appointments are made based on service requirement and applicable statutory guidelines.
Training at INA Ezhimala – What to Expect
Consequences of Marriage During Training
If a candidate is found to be married or marries at any point during training:
- Immediate discharge from service
- Must refund all pay and allowances received from the Government
- Must refund all expenditure incurred by the Government on that candidate
Consequences of Voluntary Withdrawal or Resignation During Probation
If an officer chooses to leave voluntarily or resigns during the probationary period:
- Training cost must be refunded in full or in part, as determined by the Government
- All pay and allowances received must be returned
- Interest on the above amount will also be charged at the prevailing Government loan rate
These are legal obligations clearly stated in the official notification. Understand this commitment before applying.
Terms of Service – Complete Breakdown
Understanding the Service Commitment
This is a Short Service Commission, not a permanent career entry. The maximum you can serve under this entry is 14 years. After that, you will be released regardless of performance or rank.
Permanent commission is not an option for this entry. If your long-term goal is a full 20-25 year defence career with pension benefits, you should look at entries like UPSC CDS or NDA that offer permanent commission routes.
However, for candidates who want a structured, high-responsibility career for 10-14 years – with officer rank, financial security, professional growth, and national service – this entry offers significant value.
Pay Scale and Benefits
Officers inducted as Sub Lieutenant are paid as per the 7th Central Pay Commission military pay matrix.
For exact and current pay figures, refer to the official Indian Navy website as these figures are subject to periodic revision by the Government.
